En el flujo a superficie libre se han desarrollado estructuras hidráulicas con la finalidad de tener un control en el comportamiento del flujo para obtener mediciones y crear condiciones especiales según el propósito deseado. La canaleta Parshall es una estructura hidráulica que satisface lo anterior, la cual es utilizada comúnmente para la medición del caudal en canales abiertos y para la mezcla rápida de sustancias. Muy usada en plantas de potabilización de agua.
Abstract
In the free-surface flow, hydraulic structures have been developed in order to control the flow behavior to obtain measurements and create special conditions according to the desired purpose. The Parshall gutter is a hydraulic structure that satisfies the above, which is commonly used for the flow measurement in open channels and for the rapid mixing of substances. Widely used in water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants and irrigation districts. It was invented by Ralph L. Parshall in 1920, who established its dimensions from equations that fit the design to the requirements of those who apply them. Among the advantages of its use is the conversion of position energy into speed energy, minimum energy losses and that does not allow sedimentation as if it happens with other measuring structures.
