Desequilibrio Entre Noción de Vecindad y Vida Comunitaria en Viviendas en Altura.

Abstract

The degree project entitled "Imbalance between the notion of neighbourhood and community life in high-rise housing" addresses the tension between privacy and the need for social interaction in high-rise residential contexts. In some cases it is evident that architectural design focuses on one of these aspects in favor of the other, which generates imbalance that does not meet the needs of the inhabitants, projects that reference this; such as El Mirador (Madrid-Spain)(MVRDV & Lleó, 2005), Parkrand (Netherlands)(MVRDV, 2006), designed by MVDRV, explore new ways of living between the public and the private in residential architecture. These proposals break with traditional typologies and try to promote neighborhood life, but they also pose challenges in terms of privacy. The central challenge of this work is to find a spatial balance between community life and privacy. From a theoretical approach, ideas from (Martí Arís, 1991), who in Las variaciones de la identidad highlights how spatial organization influences the perception of place and its appropriation; in La cimbra y el arco, the author (Arís, 2005) defines structures as a generator of form, highlighting the balance of stresses as a design principle. (Arnau Amo, 2006), in Architecture: Rites and Rhythms, delves into the notion of symbolic borders and spatial transitions, which allow individuality to be maintained without affecting coexistence. Finally, (Leupen, 2006), in Frame and Generic Space, argues that fixed structures can organize clear, flexible and functional spaces, facilitating individual and collective appropriation. The challenge in today's high-rise housing is to achieve an effective balance between neighbourhood, community life and privacy.
