Abstract

This study is dedicated to examining the influence of linguistic factors on the interaction between physicians and patients, which contributes to the development of unsatisfactory relationships. The main objective is to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of communication within this fundamental relationship, identifying the linguistic elements that impair doctor-patient communication and evaluating their consequent effects. A comprehensive review of the literature covering the years 2000 to 2023 was carried out, involving the meticulous selection of relevant articles based on specific criteria. Concrete examples are presented illustrating how unclear medical communication can induce confusion and anxiety in patients, and how language barriers can lead to feelings of neglect among patients. Quantitative data is subjected to analysis to identify patterns that support the qualitative findings. The conclusions underline the fundamental role that linguistic factors play in determining the quality of the doctor-patient relationship. The absence of clarity, empathy, and two-way communication can lead to relationships that are less than satisfying.
