La verdad en San Agustín

Abstract

"All men have by nature the desire to know." With these words, the first book of Aristotle's Metaphysics begins. Nevertheless, a man is not satisfied with any idea that gives reason for what he wants to know, because a man fundamentally wants to know "the truth". Since the person becomes aware of his being in the world, he begins to wonder about everything around him and about the phenomena that affect him. Thus, his interest in finding an explanation that satisfies this natural interest awakes, and in that search he finds multiple ideas that are different from each other that try to answer the same question; then the fundamental question appears: what is the true truth? This reflection exercise will seek to establish, from the analysis of different philosophical postulates, an answer to this question. I will be taking as reference the Augustinian investigation on the truth and the criteria of its philosophical research method to do so, because, although it was a man very attached to the faith, he bases his reflection very well on a rational vision that in some way is more reliable to avoid biases and completely dogmatic positions.
