En los últimos años, la movilidad en Colombia ha impulsado nuevas reflexiones sobre la arquitectura de los equipamientos intermodales, entendidos como espacios capaces de articular flujos, ciudadanía y territorio. En este contexto, el municipio de Necoclí se convierte en un caso urgente: su ubicación estratégica en el Caribe, combinada con un crecimiento sostenido del tránsito de viajeros y migrantes, ha puesto en evidencia las limitaciones de su infraestructura y la necesidad de una intervención que responda a los desafíos actuales. La investigación propone una terminal intermodal que trasciende la función técnica del transporte para convertirse en un espacio público integrador, con capacidad de ordenar los flujos terrestres y marítimos, dinamizar la economía local y atender dignamente a quienes transitan por el municipio. Esta visión se desarrolla a partir de un estudio conceptual sobre la intermodalidad, la revisión de referentes arquitectónicos internacionales y una exploración profunda del territorio mediante visitas de campo y análisis visuales. El documento se estructura en tres capítulos que recorren desde el contexto histórico y las transformaciones recientes de Necoclí, hasta la lectura detallada del lugar y la formulación del proyecto arquitectónico final. La propuesta plantea un conjunto conformado por volúmenes modulados y orientados para optimizar la luz y el desempeño climático, adaptándose a las condiciones del borde costero y fortaleciendo la relación entre la infraestructura y el paisaje. Más allá de su dimensión física, la terminal se concibe como un catalizador urbano que puede redefinir la manera en que Necoclí se conecta tanto interna como externamente. Su diseño busca revitalizar el frente marítimo, consolidar nuevas dinámicas sociales y proyectar al municipio como un nodo contemporáneo del Caribe colombiano, donde movilidad, espacio público y sostenibilidad convergen en una misma visión de desarrollo integral.
Abstract
In recent years, mobility in Colombia has prompted new reflections on the architecture of intermodal facilities—spaces capable of integrating flows, communities, and territory. Within this national context, the municipality of Necoclí emerges as a critical case. Its strategic location on the Caribbean coast, combined with a rapid increase in travelers and migrants, has exposed the limitations of its existing infrastructure and highlighted the need for an intervention that responds to current social and logistical challenges. This research proposes an intermodal terminal that goes beyond the technical function of transportation and becomes an integrated public space capable of organizing land and maritime flows, boosting the local economy, and offering dignified conditions for those who pass through the municipality. The project is grounded in a conceptual study of intermodality, the analysis of international architectural precedents, and an in-depth exploration of the local context through field visits and visual documentation. The document is structured into three chapters, moving from Necoclí’s historical context and its recent transformations, to a detailed reading of the site, and finally the architectural development of the proposed design. The project introduces a composition of modulated volumes strategically oriented to optimize natural light and environmental performance, responding to the conditions of the coastal edge and strengthening the relationship between infrastructure and landscape. Beyond its physical design, the terminal is envisioned as an urban catalyst capable of redefining how Necoclí connects both internally and externally. Its architecture seeks to revitalize the waterfront, consolidate new social dynamics, and position the municipality as a contemporary node of the Colombian Caribbean—where mobility, public space, and sustainability converge in a unified vision of territorial development.
