Nodo de mareas y caminos terminal intermodal en Necoclí Antioquia

Abstract

In recent years, mobility in Colombia has prompted new reflections on the architecture of intermodal facilities—spaces capable of integrating flows, communities, and territory. Within this national context, the municipality of Necoclí emerges as a critical case. Its strategic location on the Caribbean coast, combined with a rapid increase in travelers and migrants, has exposed the limitations of its existing infrastructure and highlighted the need for an intervention that responds to current social and logistical challenges. This research proposes an intermodal terminal that goes beyond the technical function of transportation and becomes an integrated public space capable of organizing land and maritime flows, boosting the local economy, and offering dignified conditions for those who pass through the municipality. The project is grounded in a conceptual study of intermodality, the analysis of international architectural precedents, and an in-depth exploration of the local context through field visits and visual documentation. The document is structured into three chapters, moving from Necoclí’s historical context and its recent transformations, to a detailed reading of the site, and finally the architectural development of the proposed design. The project introduces a composition of modulated volumes strategically oriented to optimize natural light and environmental performance, responding to the conditions of the coastal edge and strengthening the relationship between infrastructure and landscape. Beyond its physical design, the terminal is envisioned as an urban catalyst capable of redefining how Necoclí connects both internally and externally. Its architecture seeks to revitalize the waterfront, consolidate new social dynamics, and position the municipality as a contemporary node of the Colombian Caribbean—where mobility, public space, and sustainability converge in a unified vision of territorial development.
