    The pathological analysis of buildings is an essential tool in the fields of engineering and architecture, as it allows for understanding the causes, mechanisms, and effects of damage that affects the stability, safety, and durability of structures. In the case of the property known as Predio La Ninfa – Lote 1, located in the township of Altagracia, municipality of Pereira (Risaralda), a comprehensive diagnostic process was carried out, revealing multiple structural and construction deficiencies primarily associated with the lack of prior technical studies, the use of inadequate materials, and its construction on a sloping site with a high seismic risk. The three-story residential building exhibits a combination of irregular structural elements, such as retaining walls made of heterogeneous materials, metal beams without anti-corrosion treatment, exposed steel, and cracks in slabs and walls. These conditions create vulnerability for both the building and its occupants, compromising the functionality and safety of the entire structure. This document presents a diagnosis of the case, identifying the primary and secondary causes of deterioration, as well as the general damage present in the structure. Based on this analysis, an intervention design proposal is put forward to correct the detected flaws through structural and architectural solutions that comply with current regulations, sustainability criteria, and structural safety principles.

    This structural analysis focuses on conducting a comprehensive diagnosis of the Municipal Administrative Center (CAMI) in Tierralta, Córdoba. The main objective is to identify the root causes of the current damage or deterioration in the building to assess the extent to which it is affecting its structural integrity. Based on these findings, we defined a series of preventive and corrective intervention plans aimed at restoring the building's safety and extending its lifespan. The building has five levels and over 2,650 m2 of constructed area, although only a portion is currently in use; in fact, three of its floors are practically abandoned. For this analysis, we followed the "Building History" method, which involved reviewing old plans and permits, as well as conducting technical visual inspections to classify each type of damage according to its origin (physical, mechanical, chemical, or biological). The diagnostic results confirm that the durability and structural performance of the CAMI are seriously compromised. Therefore, it is urgent to initiate a priority intervention that addresses the root causes of the damage. Only a comprehensive technical rehabilitation plan, accompanied by sustainable maintenance, will allow the building to be rescued

    This document presents a pathological analysis of the Casa García building, a property of heritage value to the city of Tunja. The study begins with the identification and characterization of the structural defects affecting the building, through a process that included information gathering, on-site inspection, and document review, in order to establish a technical diagnosis to guide potential intervention. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the current state of conservation of the building and to propose guidelines for action that guarantee its proper functioning, use, and preservation over time. All of the above is developed in accordance with current regulations applicable to heritage properties, especially the Special Management and Protection Plan (PEMP), ensuring that any proposal respects its historical, architectural, and urban value

    This progress report corresponds to the pathological study of Teatro Imperial, a cultural-use building located in the city of Pasto, Nariño. The objective of this stage is to carry out an initial characterization of the current condition of the property through visual inspection and review of available information, in order to identify the main visible pathological manifestations and establish a baseline for subsequent diagnosis. The methodology focused on an on-site technical survey, photographic documentation, preliminary damage classification, and general background review. During the visit, cracks in masonry walls, presence of moisture in lower areas, detachment of coatings, and signs of material aging and localized collapse were observed. Environmental conditions typical of the region, characterized by cold climate and high relative humidity, may be contributing to the progressive deterioration of certain elements. This progress allows for the organization of the collected information and the definition of subsequent stages, which will include specific measurements and possible non-destructive testing to confirm causes and level of damage.

    This document presents the progress of the pathological study aimed at formulating an intervention plan for the building housing the Local Health Secretariat. This study, which involved compiling the building's history, was developed through a systematic technical visual inspection, supported by technical data sheets, photographic records, and document review. The objective was to identify, characterize, and preliminarily classify the main structural pathologies affecting the building. During the on-site data collection, fissures and cracks were observed in masonry walls, along with dampness due to filtration and condensation, detachment of finishes, and the presence of efflorescence. The information gathered allows for a preliminary diagnosis and the identification of possible primary and secondary causes, forming the technical basis for subsequent phases of the study. These phases will focus on detailed evaluation, the formulation of intervention alternatives, rehabilitation, and maintenance to guarantee the building's functionality, safety, and durability.

    The technical study presented here diagnoses the structural pathology and establishes rehabilitation strategies for the floor slab located between the third and fourth floors of Tower 1 at the headquarters of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Valle del Cauca (CVC). The approach was guided by a detailed visual inspection process and a survey that included both the mapping of defects and the delineation of damage. Based on the data acquired from the technical records and the calculation of affected areas performed during the field inspection, moderate physical and chemical deterioration was found, ranging from 20% to 40% of the inspected surface. Active leaks, efflorescence, and peeling finishes are caused by failures in the waterproofing of the upper planters. It is concluded that corrective measures must be implemented to ensure the habitability of the lower offices, with an emphasis on restoring waterproofing and the technical treatment of cracks. These observations suggest that, although there is surface damage, the structural integrity and safety of the building as a whole are not at risk.

    This study presents a preliminary pathological diagnosis of the Transport Terminal located in the municipality of Marsella, a public-use building situated in a region characterized by intermediate to high seismic hazard within the department of Risaralda (NSR-10, 2017). The assessment is based on a systematic visual inspection supported by technical inspection forms and detailed photographic records, aiming to identify, classify, and analyze the construction defects affecting both structural and non-structural components.The evaluation revealed pathological manifestations associated with structural cracking in reinforced concrete elements, surface deterioration, moisture infiltration, and damage to masonry components. These conditions may compromise the building’s serviceability, durability, and overall structural performance if not addressed appropriately (Silva & Gómez, 2018). Due to budgetary and logistical constraints, the scope of the study was limited to a non-destructive preliminary phase, emphasizing qualitative analysis rather than laboratory or destructive testing procedures.Additionally, a qualitative seismic vulnerability assessment was conducted considering the structural system, construction characteristics, and regional seismic context. The findings provide a technical basis for establishing an initial diagnosis and outlining general intervention guidelines aimed at preserving the structural integrity and functional performance of the building, following established guidelines for existing structures assessment (ICONTEC, 2013).

    The Santa Inés School is an institutional building recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site of the District, located in the Santa Inés neighborhood of Bogotá D.C. Built in the 19th century according to the principles of Republican architecture, it features load-bearing walls of solid brick joined with mortar, complemented by masonry columns and beams that function as structural reinforcement elements. Over time, the building has undergone changes in use. Initially conceived as an educational institution, it was closed due to the deterioration of the urban environment associated with the area known as El Cartucho. Subsequently, after the urban renewal process that gave rise to the Third Millennium Park, the building was preserved as a heritage landmark and a testament to the urban memory of the area. Since 2010, through a loan agreement, it has been under the administration of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, which uses it for storage purposes. This research evaluates the current state of conservation of the building through field inspections, technical surveys, and analysis of inspection records. The results show a reduction in its lifespan due to material deterioration and lack of maintenance. Conservation and intervention criteria are proposed to ensure its preservation.

    This pedestrian bridge is located along Carrera 28, directly in front of the Instituto Técnico Superior Industrial in Barrancabermeja, Colombia. The structure provides a critical pedestrian crossing in an area with high foot traffic and vehicular flow. A visual condition assessment identified deterioration primarily in the stair support columns. Observed distress includes delamination and spalling of the concrete cover, as well as exposed reinforcing steel exhibiting active corrosion. These conditions may adversely affect the long-term durability and structural performance of the bridge if corrective measures are not implemented in a timely manner. This progress report summarizes the information collected to date and documents the structure’s background, including relevant historical context and a technical description of its current condition. The proposed methodology for a detailed condition evaluation is presented, incorporating supplemental inspection activities and diagnostic testing as required. Preliminary rehabilitation guidelines are outlined with the objective of restoring adequate levels of safety, serviceability, and durability, consistent with the bridge’s functional importance to the surrounding community and daily users.

    The present pathological study of a retaining wall located in the municipality of Hispania, Antioquia, with an approximate age of fourteen (14) years at the time of inspection, aims to carry out a detailed analysis of causes, diagnosis, and intervention. Based on the development of the structural element’s “clinical history,” the study seeks to determine whether the currently observed pathologies originate from potential deficiencies associated with the stages of multidisciplinary design, technical specifications, or the construction process, or, conversely, whether they are the result of external agents not considered in the original project, such as variations in geotechnical conditions, changes in loading demands, deficiencies in water management, or natural deterioration processes inherent to its service life. The determination of these causes is carried out through a data analysis matrix in which technical background, visual inspection, photographic records, environmental conditions, potential damage mechanisms, and structural (American Concrete Institute, 2019) and geotechnical evaluations in accordance with the Colombian code (NSR-10, 2010) are correlated. This procedure allows for the formulation of a technically supported diagnosis, accompanied by a properly justified intervention proposal aimed at restoring the structural stability and functionality of the system. The proposed intervention alternative is supported by a vulnerability analysis based on structural and geotechnical components as the main axes of evaluation. This analysis constitutes the comparative basis for identifying potential engineering deficiencies in both design and construction, while also considering pathologies that may compromise global stability, structural performance, and the service life of the retaining wall

    This study presents an analysis of the structural pathologies affecting a building located in the 'Vereda Caños' of the municipality of Paipa, Boyacá. Primary data were collected to establish a diagnosis of the physical condition of the dwelling, aiming to evaluate the current state of both structural and non-structural elements. This assessment facilitated the direct identification of construction defects and the proposal of intervention measures proportional to the severity of the damage, thereby ensuring optimal performance throughout the building's service life. The analytical methodology comprised, first, a preliminary inspection to identify visible symptoms. Second, formal documentation and mapping of pathologies were conducted, incorporating architectural plans, previous studies, photographic records, technical data sheets, and seismic vulnerability analyses. Subsequently, a comprehensive diagnosis was performed to determine underlying causes and associated risks, identifying two primary pathologies rising damp and differential settlement. Finally, repair and rehabilitation alternatives were proposed based on technical, economic, and social criteria.

    This study presents a pathological assessment of the municipal auditorium building located in Cabuyaro. The main objective is to identify, analyze, and study the principal pathologies affecting the structure. This assessment arises from the need to understand the current condition of the auditorium and to develop an intervention proposal that would allow the building to be safely used again. The study was carried out using a methodology mainly based on the collection of available information and a detailed visual inspection of the building. During the site visit, several types of damage were observed and recorded in different construction elements, including cracks, fissures, and fractures, as well as efflorescence and corrosion in the reinforcing steel. Photographic records and field observations were used to document the existing conditions of the structure. After gathering the information, the data were organized and analyzed in order to determine the possible causes of the identified pathologies. Factors such as the age of the building, environmental conditions, maintenance practices, and the fact that the structure was designed under the NSR-98 regulation were considered during the evaluation. Additionally, reference is made to some tests commonly used in the evaluation of concrete structures, such as carbonation testing and ultrasonic pulse testing, as part of the technical analysis framework. Finally, a set of recommendations and intervention guidelines are proposed to improve the condition of the auditorium and contribute to its preservation and long-term functionality.

    This graduate project, entitled Pathological Study for the Intervention of the Mojao–Atánquez Bridge, develops a comprehensive structural diagnosis of this steel–concrete composite infrastructure located over the Candela River in the district of Atánquez, municipality of Valledupar (Cesar), with the aim of establishing technical intervention criteria to ensure its safety, durability, and structural performance in accordance with current Colombian regulations. The research was conducted as a case study under an analytical–diagnostic approach, supported by documentary review, structural clinical history assessment, systematic visual inspection, photographic record, and technical correlation with the guidelines of the INVIAS Bridge Evaluation and Rehabilitation Manual, NSR-10, and CCP-14. The results identified active cracking in the deck slab, loss of concrete cover with reinforcement exposure, persistent moisture and carbonation processes in the abutments, as well as advanced corrosion in IPE steel girders with visible section loss and generalized deterioration of the anticorrosive protection system. In addition, conditions compatible with erosion and potential scour at the supports were observed. The findings allow the bridge condition to be classified as moderate to severe deterioration, with progressive loss of global stiffness and reduction of its remaining service life. It is concluded that, although the structure still preserves overall stability, it shows increasing vulnerability to dynamic, environmental, and seismic actions, making an integral intervention focused on structural rehabilitation and durability control technically necessary.

    This undergraduate thesis focuses on the structural intervention of the vehicular bridge over Caño Grande, located in Villavicencio, Meta. The main objective is to assess the current condition of the bridge, identify construction pathologies, and propose technical solutions to ensure its functionality, safety, and long-term durability. The methodology includes visual inspections, material analysis, load evaluation, and structural modeling, all aligned with current regulatory standards. Based on the findings, a comprehensive intervention strategy is proposed, involving structural reinforcements, foundation improvements, and preventive maintenance recommendations. This project contributes to the enhancement of regional road infrastructure, promoting ethical and sustainable engineering practices. It also emphasizes the integration of technical diagnostics with a humanistic perspective, oriented toward social well-being and territorial development.

    This study aims to analyze the pathologies associated with water leaks in the roof of the Santa Rita de Casia Church, located in the municipality of Tuta, Boyacá. Visual inspection methods, moisture measurements, and photographic documentation were employed, following the guidelines established by NSR-10 and AIS 100-10. The results indicate that approximately 40% of the structure is affected by leaks and deterioration in the wooden components. An intervention strategy is proposed based on heritage conservation criteria, prioritizing the authenticity, reversibility, and sustainability of the materials used. The analysis of the pathologies revealed that, in order to control the leaks and deterioration present in the roof of the Santa Rita de Casia Church, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive intervention plan that includes targeted repairs to the wooden elements, along with the application of protective and preventive conservation treatments. Specifically, it is recommended to selectively replace the damaged structural members, improve the waterproofing system, and apply compatible coatings to prevent moisture infiltration and further material degradation. This study presents an integrated restoration proposal for the Santa Rita de Casia Church, in compliance with the NSR-10 and AIS 100-10 standards, as well as the fundamental principles of heritage conservation. The proposed actions aim to extend the building’s service life, preserve its architectural authenticity, and ensure both the structural stability and the historical value of the temple.     This study focuses on the analysis of structural pathologies identified in one of the buildings located in Bogotá, specifically in the locality of Usaquén. The case study corresponds to the residential complex Santa Cruz de Sotavento, located at Carrera 11 No. 140 – 87, in the Los Cedritos neighborhood. Constructed in 1980, the building has begun to exhibit signs of settlement and lateral displacement, leading to material detachment and separations between the housing units and the platform structure. In order to identify and evaluate the most significant risks associated with these conditions, the firm Alfonso Uribe & Cía. S. A. conducted a soil study aimed at analyzing the building’s structural behavior and proposing technical solutions. Consequently, this report seeks to determine the causes of the observed pathologies, interpret the findings of the geotechnical study, and propose intervention measures that enhance the safety, stability, and durability of the structure.

    This work develops a pathological diagnosis of the UASB reactors belonging to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of the municipality of Piojó, with the purpose of evaluating their structural condition and establishing intervention guidelines that allow optimizing their performance and ensuring their durability over time. The research focused on analyzing the behavior of concrete under service and environmental conditions, applying a methodology based on visual inspections, dimensional surveying, photographic recording, and nondestructive tests, among which the Schmidt hammer test stands out to determine the surface strength of the material. The results obtained were favorable: the concrete maintains an average strength close to 4000 psi, a value consistent with the structural design, which confirms that the reactor retains its loadbearing capacity. Only localized damages were detected, such as areas with honeycombing and partial exposure of the reinforcing steel, mainly caused by irregularities during the execution of the work and the prolonged action of environmental agents. Based on the technical analysis, maintenance and structural recovery actions are proposed, such as the repair of voids through grout injection, the cleaning and protection of steel with corrosion inhibitors, and the application of protective coatings on exposed surfaces. These measures will make it possible to restore the structural integrity of the reactor, extend its service life, and guarantee its proper performance within the plant’s anaerobic treatment system, contributing to the sustainability of the municipality’s sanitation service.

    A technical report was prepared with the aim of diagnosing the damage and pathologies present in the Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center. This building is located at Calle 11 #5-60 in Bogotá, across from the Teatro Colón, an area of significant cultural interest for the city. The investigation focused on the structural evaluation and diagnosis of the property, motivated by the manifestations of damage observed in various areas of the cultural center. The study encompassed an exhaustive review of pertinent documentation, including architectural and structural designs, and soil studies. The causes of the multiple damages were analyzed, considering both the construction aspects of the original building and the impact of subsequent adjacent constructions**. Water leaks, generalized cracks, and collapses were identified that were not present in the initial 2016 Neighborhood Agreement (Acta de Vecindad). A causal relationship was determined between the damage and the vibrations and tremors generated by the excavation and construction of the retaining walls and anchors for the Third Stage of the Teatro Colón. This summary more specifically integrates the findings and conclusions present in the structural pathology report, along with the tests that the cultural center's administration allowed to be carried out, such as ultrasound measurement and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) inspection, a methodology used by the aqueduct and sewage company.

    The purpose of this thesis is to conduct a pathological analysis of the Niza IX Residential Complex, located on 127th Street in Bogotá. This complex consists of eight five-story apartment blocks, built with a structural system of load-bearing walls and foundations on continuous slabs, supported by an improvement of the natural soil. Since their construction, the buildings have shown signs of damage that compromise both their structural stability and the safety of their inhabitants. The study was carried out through visual inspection and the application of non-destructive laboratory tests, selected due to the complexity of the failures and the potential risk of collapse. To this end, two main tests were used: sclerometry, under standard NTC-3692 of 2018, and ultrasound, in accordance with standard NTC-4325 of 1997. Taking into account the soil study provided, the main cause of the cracks is differential settlement, generated by deficiencies in soil improvement and inadequate structural distribution design. This led to poor building performance, increasing the risk of cracking and compromising their durability. The results of the ultrasound test indicated that, in a 12 cm thick wall, the deepest crack reached 10 cm, which makes it highly vulnerable to leaks and the penetration of contaminants that can affect the concrete and its reinforcement. For its part, the sclerometry showed that the structural elements maintain adequate compressive strength, ruling out faults in the quality of the concrete. In conclusion, the damage observed is not due to deficiencies in the materials, but rather to poor structural design, particularly in the distribution of loads and the presence of overloads, which explains the presence of cracks in the load-bearing elements.

    This project focuses on evaluating the condition of a rigid pavement through a technical and methodological process that includes field data collection, laboratory testing, and result analysis. The main objective is to identify the most representative pathologies present in the pavement structure and propose feasible maintenance or rehabilitation solutions. The methodology involved performing soil characterization tests such as granulometry and Atterberg limits (LL, LP, LC), compaction and density tests (Proctor and CBR), and topographic monitoring using precision instruments. The results are expected to provide a better understanding of the structural behavior of the pavement, the origin of deterioration, and its relationship with soil and construction conditions. This study contributes to improving the assessment process of rigid pavements and supports the selection of appropriate maintenance strategies to ensure longer service life and cost-efficient interventions.
