The most important pollutant is particulate matter according to the Bogota Air Quality Monitoring Network (BAQMN); along with this contaminant, elements such as heavy metals can be found attached, many of which exhibit a long-term toxic effect. Taking into account the presence of these elements in the air of Bogotá and that there are no studies within the area surrounding Santo Tomás University, the present investigation intends to carry out the determination of 12 heavy metals with toxic characteristics that are found in the central headquarters of the University. For monitoring, a Hi-Vol equipment will be used that will use Quartz filters; monitoring will be carried out from Monday to Sunday in the month of February 2023, for a period of 24 hours each day. Metal analysis will be carried out using the ICP-OES (Inductively Página 2 de 7 Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry) method. Results of the study will be compared with national and international air quality regulations. The findings of this work increases knowledge about other air pollutants that in periods of chronic exposure are the cause of different pathologies and they are not monitored by the BAQMN. This information will be an important input for the generation of policies or activities of control and prevention by the District Health and Environment Secretariats of Bogotá.Ítem Influencia de las explotaciones auríferas de la zona baja de la cuenca del río Dagua sobre la contaminación por mercurio en la bahía de Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca, Colombia) de 2004 al 2017(2020-11-22) Hernández Puentes, Diana Carolina; François Herrera, Jacquelin; Delgado Orozco, Natalí; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001341603; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7427-0298This work was developed during an internship in the Colombian Ocean Commission in the Committee for the Prevention of Marine Pollution - Mining and Water Resource Group. The project study area is lower Dagua River basin region, connected to the Buenaventura bay in the Pacific Ocean. In this region environmental, political, and violence conflicts are common and are related to legal and illegal gold exploitation, resulting in high levels of mercury pollution. Despite this historical fact, control by the authorities has been ineffective, and the region is considered as a “red zone” due to its high level of conflicts and governability difficulties. Mercury has affected the river bed and the Buenaventura bay. This pollutant has been found in commercial fisheries on species such as mojarra, mullet and croaker; in pelicans; in crustaceans such as crabs, tiger shrimp and prawns; and in benthic communities. This project is aimed to identify and analyze the trend of the presence of mercury in the Buenaventura bay and the lower area of the Dagua river basin from 2004 to 2017 through secondary information from government entities, academic institutions and independent researches. Control and mitigation measures of the negative impacts of gold mining will be identified. The magnitude of the gold mining activity impact will be determined in order to call for a national alertÍtem Obtención de energía eléctrica por celdas de combustión microbiana con plantas, en un sistema de una sola cámara sin el uso de membranas(2020-11-22) Gámez Hernández, Danna Melissa; Romero Mejía, Maria Camila; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000118793Microbial fuel cells are devices that take advantage of the biodegradation of organic matter to transform it into electricity. Plants synthesize organic matter through photosynthesis, and degrade it with the help of microorganisms found in the rhizosphere (roots of plants). The basic structure of the mechanism consists of two chambers that differ in oxygenation conditions, separated by a membrane. However, these membranes are of high value, when it is used increasing the main cost of this technology. The electric energy production was evaluated by measuring the difference in potential generated in a single chamber system without membrane, which uses 4 individuals of the genders Brachiaria as a source of mycorrhizae, graphite mines as electrodes and microbial enrichment of the anode with bacteria from stagnant waters for the optimization of the device. The voltage varied throughout the experiment and 160.4 mV was obtained as the maximum value.Ítem Estudio técnico ambiental comparativo del tratamiento de aguas residuales domésticas para su descarga mediante emisarios en medio marítimo y continental. Caso Cartagena y Barranquilla(2020-11-22) Quitian Gutierrez, Maryory Bibian; Molina Acosta, Lizeth Del Carmen; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001527346Due to its composition, the domestic wastewater - DWW, generates environmental impacts that can alter aquatic ecosystems. These impacts may vary depending on the characteristics of the receiving body, occurring different behaviors in maritime and continental bodies. The receiving body therefore determines the characteristics of the treatment to be received by the DWW. However, until the year 2018, in Colombia only the permissible limits of dumping to superficial (continental) bodies were established and the quality objectives of specific receiving bodies were considered. In this context, municipal wastewater treatment systems, in compliance with resolution 631 of 2015, did not discriminate against the receiving body, having the same treatment characteristics for dumping in marine and continental environments. In view of the foregoing, the following work aims to define the technical environmental criteria to be considered in the domestic wastewater treatment system according to the characteristics of the receiving media. Methodologically, a qualitative, descriptive and evaluative investigation was carried out, in which the behavior of the receiving body was analyzed, the DWW treatment system was compared to two cities in which discharges are carried out in continental and maritime environments- Barranquilla and Cartagena – through emissaries, and defined the operational units required for wastewater treatment according to the media. It was determined that the parameters of DWW of importance for discharging in the continental media were pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, BOD, COD, TSS, settleable solids, fats and oils, and coliforms; while for the discharge in marine media were TSS, and fats and oils.Ítem Análisis de la variabilidad espacio temporal de la calidad del agua en el río Magdalena en un tramo comprendido entre el municipio de El Banco (Magdalena) y el municipio de Soledad (Atlántico) durante el periodo de 2010 a 2016(2020-11-22) Carrillo, Paola; Jaramillo, Angela; Sierra, Ronal; Delgado, NatalíThis article presents the study carried out in the framework of the internship carried out in the Colombian Ocean Commission, in the Office of Risk Management in the area of marine and coastal affairs, as the initiative of the National Technical Committee for the Prevention of Marine contamination . The concentrations of mercury (Hg) in muscle tissue of fish species from the Ayapel swamp were evaluated to determine possible risks to human health. An exploratory cross-sectional study was conducted in which surveys were applied to 74 inhabitants of the municipality of Ayapel, to collect information on fish consumption. Samples of fish with higher consumption were taken by the participants according to the surveys. The fish samples were analyzed by direct mercury analyzer (Mylestone DMA 80 Tri Cell). In general, most of the analyzed samples had concentrations lower than the maximum acceptable value in fish for human consumption, according to the Codex Alimentarius. A significant percentage of participants exceeded the value of the Tolerable Provisional Weekly Intake (ISPT) established as no risk of adverse health effects for both the most sensitive population group (women of childbearing age and children up to 15 years old = 1.6 μg / kg body weight) as for the rest of the population (3.2 μg / kg body weight).Ítem Modelación de un vertimiento doméstico sobre una corriente hídrica aplicando el modelo de Streeter y Phelps(2020-11-22) Contreras Gómez, Alix Estela Yusara; Navarro Rincón, Luz Andrea; Estrada Alsina, Marlene; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001631148; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001494363; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000160524The present study evaluated the assimilation capacity of a domestic discharge on a water current applying the Streeter and Phelps model. For this the quality of the resource was determined through the Water Quality Index-ICA proposed by the IDEAM, besides the hydrodynamic processes and their purification capacity were evaluated. Applying the model to a specific stretch of the Mensulí, according to the behavior of OD and BOD resulting, the shedding begins its recovery at 0.89 km, but its complete assimilation is given to 17 km. Bearing in mind that there are more downstream discharges, it is important that all users of the stream commit themselves to mitigate the environmental impact produced on the resource. The case study allowed to verify that the Streeter and Phelps model is a valid tool to evaluate the assimilation of an effluent, as well as for the decision making based on the recovery of the water resource, so it is a methodology that can be used in environmental procedures.Ítem Desarrollo de los niveles de ambición, en la categoría de electricidad en zonas no interconectadas, para la Calculadora de Carbono 2050 de San Andrés y Providencia(2020-11-22) Acevedo Leyva, Liza Alejandra; Jiménez Portillo, Jesús Gabriel; Cabeza Rojas, Iván Orlando; Cabeza Rojas, Mario Andrés; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001554681; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001240447; https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=es&user=96vN0jsAAAAJ; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7110-813XThe Pathways of the San Andrés y Providencia’s Carbon Calculator 2050 in the section of “Non Interconnected Zones’ electricity” were developed, checking simultaneously the excel and web version of the calculator, which allow i create the calculation tree.
