Abstract

In the framework of the research on the local heritage discourse and its impact on the "authorized heritage discourse" of the Historic Center of Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia, this document is presented that summarizes the construction of a process of social appropriation of knowledge with social interest. This collaborative work between the research teachers of the research group and the community was carried out through an intentional process of citizen participation. The objective was to create knowledge based on the local perspective of the people who are part of the community, covering their various jobs and experiences in the context of the historic center. It is intended that these interpretations and initiatives enrich the local heritage discourse on cultural heritage and contribute to local development. The approach of social appropriation of knowledge with social interest applied in the research project was developed through dialogue with invited members of the community, which allowed the recognition of the cultural wealth of the area. This process facilitated a deep and shared understanding of the importance of cultural heritage and the value of the identity of the place. The methodological proposal was structured in three main phases. The first was the generation of spaces for exchange between academic knowledge and empirical knowledge, focused on the recognition, appreciation and appropriation of cultural heritage. Secondly, the identification of Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the context of the historic center was carried out, which allowed the recognition of problems and the exploration of possible solutions from the personal perspective of the participants. And finally, the proposal for community actions was the central axis of the process, and was developed through the collaborative construction of knowledge. These actions will facilitate, in a second phase projected for the future, the creation of a local heritage discourse that can address issues of collective interest and contribute to the solution of problems within the community of the historic center
