Este artículo analiza los retos y oportunidades derivados de la actividad turística en Villa de Leyva, Boyacá, con el fin de evaluar su impacto en el desarrollo económico y ambiental del municipio. Villa de Leyva, reconocida por su patrimonio cultural, histórico y natural, ha experimentado un aumento significativo en el flujo turístico, lo que ha generado beneficios económicos, como la creación de empleo y la dinamización de sectores como la hostelería, gastronomía y comercio local. Sin embargo, este crecimiento ha generado desafíos en términos de sostenibilidad ambiental y manejo adecuado de recursos, lo que pone en riesgo la preservación de su entorno natural y la calidad de vida de sus residentes.
La investigación aborda la situación actual del turismo en Villa de Leyva, identificando los principales retos y oportunidades en las áreas económica y ambiental. El turismo ha demostrado ser un motor económico clave, pero la falta de infraestructura adecuada y la presión sobre los recursos naturales exigen una gestión eficiente y responsable. El ecoturismo, la educación ambiental y el control de los flujos turísticos son algunas de las estrategias sostenibles que podrían ayudar a equilibrar el crecimiento económico con la conservación del patrimonio natural.
Villa de Leyva enfrenta el desafío de lograr un desarrollo turístico sostenible que beneficie tanto a la economía local como al entorno ambiental. Para ello, es fundamental implementar políticas públicas que promuevan un turismo responsable, involucrando a la comunidad en la planificación y ejecución de iniciativas que aseguren el futuro económico y ambiental del municipio.

Abstract
This article analyzes the challenges and opportunities derived from tourism activity in Villa de Leyva, Boyacá, in order to evaluate its impact on the economic and environmental development of the municipality. Villa de Leyva, recognized for its cultural, historical and natural heritage, has experienced a significant increase in the flow of tourists, which has generated economic benefits, such as job creation and the dynamization of sectors such as hotels, gastronomy and local commerce. However, this growth has generated challenges in terms of environmental sustainability and proper resource management, which puts at risk the preservation of its natural environment and the quality of life of its residents. The research addresses the current situation of tourism in Villa de Leyva, identifying the main challenges and opportunities in the economic and environmental areas. Tourism has proven to be a key economic driver, but the lack of adequate infrastructure and the pressure on natural resources require efficient and responsible management. Ecotourism, environmental education, and control of tourist flows are some of the sustainable strategies that could help balance economic growth with natural heritage conservation.
Villa de Leyva faces the challenge of achieving sustainable tourism development that benefits both the local economy and the environment. To this end, it is essential to implement public policies that promote responsible tourism, involving the community in the planning and execution of initiatives that ensure the economic and environmental future of the municipality.
