Registro de Asistencia para los Laboratorios ETM de la Universidad Santo Tomás Haciendo Uso de Lectores NFC y Carnet Institucional

Abstract

Santo Tomas University has a manual attendance registration system, in which each teacher is required to keep a record of student attendance to the different academic spaces registered. The attendance registers for the ETM laboratories of Universidad Santo Tomas using NFC readers and institutional card provides a solution for this activity to be done in such a way that teachers do not have to manually carry out the whole process, incorporating innovative technologies within a specific sector of Universidad Santo Tomas Main Campus. In the development of this project a quantitative methodology was used, since it is essential to obtain experimental data that require the collection of information both before and after the implementation of the system. Among the activities carried out in this methodology is the recognition and analysis of the different processes involved in an attendance register, followed by the analysis of which elements would be used for the design of a prototype that performs the reading of the serial identifier of each institutional card added to the design of a database and user application with the characteristics obtained in the analysis of the processes of an attendance register (system characterization). After the implementation of the automatic attendance registration system in one of the ETM laboratories of Universidad Santo Tomás, the users registered in the system, both teachers and students, are obtained, allowing students to report their entry and exit of each class session using their institutional card. With this report per student, a report is obtained for each session, where, depending on the time of entry of each student, their attendance status is generated (present, late or unjustified failure). These reports are sent to the teacher in charge via e-mail after the end of each session, according to the established time conditions. Finally, each of these reports can be uploaded to Moodle to have the traceability of attendance for each class session developed. With the fulfillment of each of the objectives set for the development of an automatic attendance registration system, it is possible to have a system that provides improvements in terms of the time spent in the registration of attendance per student, allowing, in addition, that the main responsible for the attendance report is the student himself/herself. On the other hand, there is a low percentage of error in each attendance report delivered by the system and the attendance registration process does not interfere with the correct development of each class session.
