The internship focused on strengthening the area's technical capacity for managing permitting and sanctioning procedures, acting under the constitutional principle of environmental protection and in compliance with Law 99 of 1993. The main project aligned with the challenges of the Circular Economy and the application of waste regulations, seeking to shift from reactive to preventive oversight based on sound data, in accordance with Institutional Capacity Theory. The core problem addressed was the ineffective application of Resolution MADS 0316 of 2018, which mandates that industrial, commercial, and service sector generators register in the Used Cooking Oil (UCO) Registry. The Regional Autonomous Corporation (CAR) had requested an initial list from the Tunja Chamber of Commerce, which yielded 780 raw registrations. This information, lacking data cleansing, exhibited significant duplication of company names and owner names, rendering it legally unusable for formal notification and subsequent enforcement. This data inconsistency hampered the efficiency of the sanctioning process, limiting the CAR's ability to exercise its environmental policing function and control over a pollutant with a high ecotoxicological impact on water bodies and the sewage system. The solution was implemented through a rigorous data cleansing and verification methodology, conceptually framed within the principles of Uniqueness and Validity. The Regional Autonomous Corporation's Geographic Information System (GIS) was used. The process involved iteratively cross-referencing the initial 780 records with the official database of the Single Business and Social Registry (RUES), using ISIC codes as a decisive filter to identify activities that generate or manage waste. This methodological approach transformed scattered business information into legally valid evidence, culminating in the consolidation of a definitive list of 449 unique and verified users. The results obtained are twofold and significant. First, the registration of the 447 vetted users in the SIDCAR database was achieved, establishing the precise platform for evidence-based oversight. This census serves as the basis for the formal distribution of notification letters that disseminate Resolution 0316 of 2018, activating the environmental co-responsibility of waste generators and promoting regulatory compliance. Secondly, the technical support provided to the area allowed for the optimization of the management of sanctioning procedures, as demonstrated in complex cases of atmospheric emissions without a permit (coking and mate factories in Ráquira), shortening response times and issuing solid technical opinions that protected the legal validity of the Corporation's actions. In this regard, in Colombia, human activities—from daily life, school, work, and production—generate negative environmental effects due to, in some cases, the lack of proper waste management oversight. Environmental impacts have been increasing due to rapid industrial development, which constitutes a social, environmental, and economic problem. This issue has been further exacerbated by the rise in human density and mass consumerism, driven by the media, without paying attention to the environmental problem they are creating.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Apoyar las actividades desarrolladas dentro de la secretaría de Servicios Públicos del municipio de Fúquene – Cundinamarca, fortaleciendo las actividades ambientales de manejo de los residuos sólidos en las rutas de recolección(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2024-11-29) Garzón Espejo, Dayana Alexandra; García Murillo, Paulo Germán; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000295612; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=60GkRtsAAAAJ&hl=es&oi=ao; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4086-0489During the development of the thesis project, the management of solid waste in the municipality was diagnosed, identifying that the compactor's overload did not match the number of registered users, resulting in additional costs for collection routes. This highlighted the need to train the community on proper waste management. Additionally, a census was conducted to verify service payments, ensuring charges were included in the water bill when necessary. The mixed approach enabled the quantification of system users, optimizing the collection, transportation, and final disposal of waste. It also facilitated the identification of accumulation points and affected areas caused by the lack of accurate data. The activities carried out fostered a stronger connection with the community, making it easier to implement training on proper waste management practices. Environmental education was key to addressing issues such as dumping garbage into water sources, burning waste, and creating open-air dumps. While these efforts did not fully change community habits, they contributed to environmental commitment and emphasized the need for new strategies. Students and farmers were engaged, receiving tools to improve waste management and promote sustainability. Despite cultural challenges, the diagnosis allowed for the implementation of effective solutions that benefited the environment. This process strengthened both my personal growth and my knowledge of solid waste management.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Plan Estratégico Turístico para el Municipio de Cimitarra Santander 2024- 2028(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2024-05-09) Cordoba Gamboa, Roselbi; Duarte Garzon, Omar Eutimio; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000467090; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0567-4149Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Implementación de Estrategias de Educación Ambiental en el Colegio Técnico Pio Alberto Ferro Peña del Municipio de Chiquinquirá (Boyacá), para Fomentar en los Estudiantes de Grado 10° Y 11° la Cultura Ambiental y el Cuidado del Medio Ambiente(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2024-05-17) Quintero Cancelada, Ana Patricia; García Murillo, Paulo Germán; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000295612; https://scholar.google.es/citations?hl=es&user=60GkRtsAAAAJ; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4086-0489Environmental education taught in student communities from an early age is one of the most important tools because it offers proposals to provide solutions to environmental problems, as it allows children and adolescents to be informed and guided so that they become aware of the importance to care for and preserve their environment and be willing to make changes in their values, behaviors, lifestyles, and ways of living together the scope of an ethic that promotes a new friendly way and feeling of shared responsibility to live in our common home . Environmental education expands knowledge to develop the ability to reflect in action, its main objective is to cause a change in people, in that case in girls, boys and young people and in the environment, being a participatory dynamic. This project was carried out with the objective of strengthening the knowledge and environmental awareness of the 10th and 11th grade students of the Pio Alberto Ferro Peña Technical School in the city of Chiquinquirá Boyacá, through an environmental education program accompanied by different practical activities aimed at the proper management of solid and organic waste generated within the institution and its homes to later give them a new use. It is currently an important source of direct and indirect employment in the region. Due to its importance and large extensions of planted hectares, this crop requires the use of good agricultural practices so that the productivity of the crop does not affect the environment and is sustainable. For the agronomic management of the crop, in addition to fertilization, irrigation and drainage, adequate pest management is required, focusing on biological pest control, trying to reduce the application of insecticides. In addition, applications of broad-spectrum chemical insecticides also affect beneficial insects, such as pollinators, predators and parasitoids of pests of this crop. Currently, within the integrated management of oil palm pests, biological controllers such as fungi, viruses, nematodes, parasitoids and predators of pest insects are being used as a strategy to reduce the use of chemical products and encourage the proliferation of biological controllers in the natural environment, in the surroundings of the crop, vegetative covers are being established with nectariferous plants that have extrafloral nectaries that secrete nectars that attract these beneficial insects. The objective of this work was "To enhance the vegetation cover by planting nectariferous plants as a strategy to generate the development of natural enemies of the lepidopteran genus Opsiphanes in the plantation of Elaeis guineensis Jack in the Experimental Field Palmar de las Corocoras in the municipality of Paratebueno, Cundinamarca". In the development of this work in the Palmar de las Corocoras experimental field, 2000 nectariferous plants of thirteen species collected in the region have been identified, classified and planted. The seeds of these different species were collected and the nursery was established and later planted in lots 18 of the plantation, since this lot is a new planting and requires good agronomic management. These results are a contribution to the reestablishment of adequate vegetative cover for the development of biological controllers around oil palm crops.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Plan de Reforestación con Especies Nativas de Mangle en una Zona Degradada del Bajo Pindo, Municipio de San Andrés de Tumaco, Nariño(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2023-07-31) Angulo Marquinez, Yey Dani; Cárdenas Castro, Estrella; Duarte Garzón, Omar Eutimio; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000104434; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000467090; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001660302; https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=es&user=TyojsZIAAAAJ; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8115-4989; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0567-4149It is based on the urgent need to protect and rehabilitate mangrove ecosystems in the Bajo Pindo area, San Andrés de Tumaco, Nariño. The accelerated degradation of these mangroves has generated negative impacts both environmentally and socioeconomically, requiring concrete actions for their recovery. First and foremost, the conservation of mangroves is essential due to their key role in mitigating climate change. Mangroves have a high capacity for carbon storage, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the balance of the global carbon cycle (Alongi, 2015). Their degradation and loss result in the release of large amounts of stored carbon, exacerbating climate change. Furthermore, mangroves play a crucial role in coastal protection. They act as natural barriers against coastal erosion, storms, and extreme weather events, reducing the risk of flooding and protecting local communities (Barbier et al., 2011). The degradation of mangroves exposes communities to a higher risk of natural disasters and associated economic losses. In terms of biodiversity, mangroves host a wide variety of plant and animal species, including many endemic and endangered species. Their conservation is essential for preserving biological diversity and maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems (Feller et al., 2017). Additionally, mangroves serve as critical habitats for fish and crustaceans that are an important source of food and livelihood for local communities.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Propuesta de mejoramiento en la segregación de residuos aprovechables y no aprovechables en el Hospital San Rafael de Cáqueza, aplicando estrategias educativas dirigidas al cliente interno(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2023-06-15) Benito Ortiz, Laura Fernanda; Medina Alvarado, Ivan Leonardo; Saldarriaga, Carolina; Universidad Santo TomásThe ESE Hospital San Rafael de Cáqueza is a level II health entity that provides services of low and medium complexity. The hospital, as a public health establishment, interested in continuously improving its environmental performance, sets itself the goal of reducing and/or mitigating the negative impacts that may be generated on the environment and health, through compliance with legal requirements and the current environmental regulations. From the above, the entity has a documented Environmental Management policy, with indicators that measure, monitor, and from which improvement plans are generated in case of any deviation. This internship was carried out during the period between December 16, 2022 and January 23, 2023 within the framework of the Environmental Administration and Natural Resources career, where it was possible to identify problems associated with the segregation of waste, therefore which environmental education strategies are proposed for the staff of the institution followed by the application and fulfillment of these in order to contribute to improving the segregation of usable and non-usable waste that is produced in the hospital.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Gestión de Residuos Respel en Empresas(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2023-03-30) Molina Molina, Víctor Gustavo; Olmedo Meza, Alejandra Margarita; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001608971; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0303-2537For several decades the world has been facing a unique and also destructive pollution caused by hazardous waste, for the collective it is something more; Those who are not immersed in areas related to the environment and the like, only see products that are necessary for common use for life, for transportation, and necessary in agriculture. But who thinks about what happens after changing the oil in the car, replacing a light bulb in our home or when our computer has reached the end of its useful life? All this generates hazardous waste that, due to little or no information for consumers, becomes a danger to people and the environment. The generators of this waste try to make consumers responsible for the final destination of this waste, with labels on their products, but the truth is that, from a light bulb to a toxic agent, it is treated with the standards established by the different agreements or compendia on the management of RESPEL. For this reason, attempts have been made to introduce new regulations and strategies that can be more direct in environmental care, however, this is not an easy task since generators must train, implement and invest in everything that is needed to put a stop to the uncontrolled final management of the aforementioned waste. It is time for us to take caring for the planet seriously, taking into account that it is already showing us the damage that we have been doing to it because of our dedication.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Implementación del curso modelo OMI 1.38, orientado a la sensibilización y conocimiento de la biodiversidad, contaminación y prácticas marineras a bordo de los buques(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2023-04-10) Casañas Arango, Miguel Angel; González Acosta, Julio Alberto; Universidad Santo Tomas; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000992267; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001619803; https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=es&user=dYYGICwAAAAJ; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7669-2507The purpose of this professional practice work was to implement the “IMO 1.38” model course in order to raise awareness and knowledge of biodiversity, pollution and marine practices on board of vessels. This is due to the fact that the absence of protocols applied to the implementation of good marine practices on board of maritime transport and fishing vessels, causes the dumping of hydrocarbons, dirty water, garbage (plastics) and atmospheric emissions (carbon dioxide), which impact the marine environment causing affectations to the fauna, flora and economic activities such as fishing and recreation in the Bay of Buenaventura. Considering the previous fact the International Maritime Organization (IMO) aware of the pollution produced by ships, in its commitment to implement sustainable navigation, has included as a mandate to all the crew members the certification of the model course 1.38 “Awareness Regarding to the Marine Environment”, aimed at crew members of vessels in order to adopt good marine practices on board to contribute to the reduction of pollution of the marine environment. During the professional practice carried out at SENA “Nautical Fishing Center of Buenaventura”, five (5) courses of twenty (20) apprentices each were implemented, having as a result raising awareness of the adoption of good seafaring practices among one hundred (100) sailors who currently work on board vessels that operate on the Colombian Pacific coast.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Diseño Proyecto de Grado Diseño de un Sistema de Gestión Ambiental (SGA) para la Empresa Comtesa Drywall Systems LTDA.(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2023-02-27) Castellanos Valdes, Fabio Andrés; Saldarriaga Ramirez, Carolina; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000388726; https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=es&user=QDwvhvEAAAAJ; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6460-563XIn this degree project you will find the design of an environmental management system for the company Comtesa Drywall System LTDA.
