Ítem La radio y habilidades para la vida, una apuesta para una sociedad más incluyente(2023-05) Arias Pineda, Karen; Oviedo Cáceres, María del Pilar; Porras Moreno, Jeisson Fabian; Torres, Zarid; Universidad Santo Tomás, Seccional Bucaramanga; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001711284; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001355511; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001743131; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=8o53cbwAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=4d3Q6YYAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=OpLmfNMAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000002626; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000007715; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9378-8957; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2576-8409; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9124-1149This process of social appropriation of knowledge focused on strengthening the participation and empowerment of women with disabilities and victims of the conflict, promoting their social inclusion through radio, with a differential focus on gender and human rights. The methodology used was based on principles of popular education and communication models for development and social change, which allowed the participants to take ownership of the process and act as agents of change in their communities. In total, 15 social and political leaders participated, who throughout the project not only acquired communication tools, but also spaces to exercise their rights more effectively. The conclusions of the process highlight the transformative power of communication as a vehicle for empowerment, showing that, by providing adequate resources and opportunities for participation, it is possible to build a more just and equitable future for women, enhancing their role in society.Ítem Comunicación para la salud : una experiencia con población de Guatiguará(2023-11-15) Palencia Flórez, Diana Cristina; Gómez Gómez, Mayelín; Universidad Santo Tomás, Seccional Bucaramanga; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001474953; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001988330; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=tU0OqRUAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000002626; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0915-3348Healthy visual behaviors go beyond simple individual acts, as they are shaped by socially conditioned life patterns, rooted in culture and limited by economic factors. In this sense, health education, also known as health literacy, plays a fundamental role, as it manages to influence the decisions of people and the community, by enhancing skills through educational and motivational techniques that favor the promotion of health and the construction of the health capital of a society, starting from the approach of the social, economic and environmental determinants that influence the health of the population, particularly those in vulnerable areas such as human settlements. To this end, it was proposed to transfer knowledge about healthy visual practices that promote self-care and the prevention of visual problems to the leaders of the Guatiguará invasion sectors, with the purpose of training them as agents of change in the promotion of visual health. This was achieved through a process that began with the approach to key actors in the community (sector leaders), the use of territorial mapping techniques and perceptions to identify the realities of the communities of the Guatiguará settlement, and finally an educational process was carried out that included the identification of a playful strategy and the generation of a bank of questions, to promote the processes of dissemination of information with the rest of the community. Among the results, it is highlighted that after the mapping was carried out, difficulties were identified for the territorial delimitation of the seven sectors, given that, being an invasion zone, the boundaries are not clearly defined, in addition, most of the houses have access to at least one basic service. Popular practices that parents have and that could potentially compromise the visual health of children were also identified. The last stage contemplated the adaptation of a popular game as an educational strategy to promote the dissemination of information. In conclusion, it is recognized that it is important to carry out community outreach exercises to learn about popular knowledge that can affect attendance and adherence to interventions that promote the visual health of children.Ítem Fortalecimiento de Capacidades en Diagnóstico Temprano de Alteraciones Visuales para Mejorar la Atención y Salud Ocular Infantil(2023-10-06) Palencia Flórez, Diana Cristina; Universidad Santo Tomás, Seccional Bucaramanga; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001474953; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=tU0OqRUAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000002626; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0915-3348The Ministry of Health defines visual health as: “the absence of those visual alterations that prevent humans from achieving a physical, cultural, structural and functional state of social well-being”. Visual health can be affected by the presence of refractive defects such as myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. Failure to correct visual alterations in a timely manner can lead to amblyopia, defined as “the unilateral or bilateral decrease in vision without apparent functional or organic cause” (5) (6). According to statistics, amblyopia is ten times more frequent than any other reported visual alteration or eye disease and is the main cause of monocular blindness worldwide (5) (7). Taking into account the above, the early correction of visual alterations is pertinent, an action that starts with the timely referral to visual health services, for which the development of the present process of social appropriation of knowledge is key, which allows appropriating knowledge on the early diagnosis of visual alterations in early childhood to doctors and nursing staff, linked to the growth and development program, in order to strengthen their care capabilities and promote the timely detection of visual problems in children. In order to consolidate the process of social appropriation of knowledge, it was started with the joint development by professionals of medicine, optometry, nursing and specialists in family medicine, of a questionnaire that allows identifying conceptual gaps in issues related to the visual development of children, which after being identified were input for the development of an infographic that was shared with the staff of the Health Center of the Mutis Neighborhood. Finally, it is concluded that the process of social appropriation allows promoting knowledge among health professionals about the ages of visual plasticity, the emmetropization process and the importance of carrying out an adequate initial visual screening, favors the establishment of regular controls and allows doctors dedicated to primary care to detect any decrease in visual acuity or risk factors that may affect normal ocular and visual development. It is also highlighted that, by integrating professionals from various disciplines, a more effective and coordinated collaboration is fostered. This interdisciplinary synergy is essential to comprehensively address the ophthalmological and optometric needs of patients, creating a collaborative and well-trained health team. In addition, sharing responsibilities and knowledge promotes an environment of continuous learning and professional development, contributing to a more satisfactory and healthy practice.Ítem La rehabilitación un pilar para garantizar la calidad de vida de personas con baja visión(2024-11-01) Palencia Flórez, Diana Cristina; Narvaez Rumie, Olivia Margarita; Universidad Santo Tomás, Seccional Bucaramanga; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001474953; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001493289; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=tU0OqRUAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=qGsA_30AAAAJ&hl=es; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000002626; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0915-3348; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6203-4669Vision is one of the most dominant senses of the human being, which supports and energizes several aspects of the life cycle. Throughout this, vision helps in independence, maintenance of social contact, self-care, sense of identity, mental health and well-being. Vision can be compromised by visual deficiencies, which occur when an eye condition or disease affects some component of the visual system, causing impairment of one or more of the visual functions. When these deficiencies interact with the context of people, amidst facilitators, barriers, attitudes and environments, disability can be generated, in this case visual disability. For this reason, it was considered pertinent to promote awareness and understanding in people with low vision and caregivers about the importance of visual rehabilitation within the framework of the process of care in visual health in order to promote autonomy and improve quality of life. To this end, local representatives who had groups of people with low vision characterized in the municipalities of Girón and Bucaramanga were approached. Subsequently, a participatory diagnosis was carried out with the people who decided to respond to the call, followed by awareness days and workshops on community appropriation and training. The activities described, which included the participation of people with visual disabilities and caregivers, allowed us to identify that they were unaware of the effects that low vision has on the spheres of human development and the benefits derived from the rehabilitation process. In the case of caregivers, by making the experience of having low vision a reality, it contributed to the understanding of the particular reality of those who suffer from the disease, an aspect that contributes significantly to consolidating the support network. Finally, people with low vision were induced to attend consultations in order to adequately monitor eye pathologies and define optical support devices. Attendance to visual rehabilitation processes was also induced. Taking into account the experience, it is concluded that awareness is key to promoting the consolidation of support networks and attendance to low vision and visual rehabilitation services.Ítem Atención clínica y entrenamiento visual en el adulto mayor, una experiencia basada en evidencia(2022-11-12) D’antone, Valeria Andrea; Palencia Florez, Diana Cristina; García González, Daniel Efrén; Parada Jaimes, Yhised Gerardine; Universidad Santo Tomás, Seccional Bucaramanga; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001653195; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001474953; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001357410; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000041522; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=FHr8PjcAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=tU0OqRUAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=LdZPjrsAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000002626; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000012582; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4044-4215; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0915-3348; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4424-9831; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0370-6100Human aging leads to a decline in executive functions, working memory, and psychomotor speed. Taking into account the increase in life expectancy, this represents a challenge for today's societies. In this sense, the literature broadly describes the benefits generated by physical activity conceived as a health promoter, but attention needs to be diverted to promote the generation of evidence of the effects that visual function training can have on the quality of life of older adults. Taking into account the above, it was decided to work with a group of optometrists from different Latin American countries to promote the social appropriation of knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the organic and psychosocial changes that affect older adults, specifically in relation to general and ocular deterioration, in order to train them to design and implement interventions aimed at strengthening locomotion and vision functions, thus promoting independence and improving the quality of life of older adults. This objective was achieved by employing a methodology that integrated theoretical and practical content within the framework of a collaborative learning exercise, which allowed the identification of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affected both life expectancy and quality of life in an elderly patient with compromised visual skills. In addition, different physical exercise intervention protocols were explored, and a visual training scheme for the elderly was established based on the analysis of visual-motor and perceptual functions. Finally, the life prospects of an elderly person were contrasted based on the most relevant psychosocial aspects of these in their region.Ítem Educación en salud visual CONVISIÓN(2022-09-20) Gómez Gómez, Mayelin; Palencia Flórez, Diana Cristina; Universidad Santo Tomás, Seccional Bucaramanga; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001474953; https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=tU0OqRUAAAAJ; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000002626; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0915-3348Health is influenced by social, cultural and economic factors, and health education, or health literacy, is key to improving decision-making and promoting health in the community. The objective of this process of social appropriation of knowledge is to create a comprehensive eye health program aimed at students and workers exposed to video terminals, focused on education, promotion, guidance and prevention of ocular risks. The study is qualitative with an action-participation research approach. The program was structured in several stages: first, information was collected on ocular pathologies caused by external factors, nutritional problems, and systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Then, this information was organized into thematic modules with the development of educational pieces, including topics such as eye health, computer vision syndrome, and myths about vision. The results of the program included awareness of eye health risks, the promotion of healthy habits during the work day, and motivation to make timely optometry consultations
