This undergraduate thesis proposes the development of a bovine milk collection facility in the San Jorge district of the municipality of Zipaquirá, with the objective of strengthening the dairy supply chain in the region. The project will provide collection, cooling, testing, and storage services to ensure the quality and safety of the product. The research is conducted using a mixed-methods approach. In the quantitative component, surveys will be administered to small and medium-scale producers to determine production volumes, sales prices, and logistical needs. On the qualitative side, semi-structured interviews were conducted with local dairy sector stakeholders to gain insight into their perceptions, challenges, and expectations. This methodological combination offers a comprehensive understanding of both the context and the project's feasibility. Currently, the region produces approximately 25,000 liters of milk per day, much of which is sold without proper handling conditions. The proposed collection center would promote hygienic management of the product, facilitate collective bargaining, and increase producers’ incomes, thereby positively impacting their quality of life. From an economic standpoint, the project is viable: it presents an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 39.68%, a Net Present Value (NPV) of COP $49,179,487, and an investment payback period of less than three years. In conclusion, this collection center will not only improve the quality and distribution of milk, but also drive local economic development and promote sustainable dairy production practices.

The choice of the research topic on Sustainable Business Models in Boyacá Fruit Farming stems from several compelling reasons at the economic, social, and environmental levels. In particular, the production of fruits such as apples and pears has significant growth potential due to demand. Establishing sustainable businesses in these sectors of the Boyacá economy will not only contribute to local economic development but can also position the region as a leader in the production of high-quality fruit. Furthermore, the sector needs the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices such as agroecology, conservation agriculture, crop rotation, reduced use of agrochemicals, and the promotion of biodiversity to minimize environmental impact, the effects of climate change, and unintended consequences for the health of workers and consumers of agricultural products. By focusing production on sustainable methods, it will not only contribute to environmental conservation but also improve soil health and product quality, which can result in a competitive advantage in the market. This study seeks to answer the following research question: What are the main factors that limit or favor the implementation of sustainable business models in fruit farming in Boyacá, and what strategies could strengthen their adoption?

(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2025-10-14) Romero Camargo, Marisol; Meza Fonnegra, Andrea Johanna; Castaño Martinez, Camilo Antonio; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001049330; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=quiNsy8AAAAJ&hl=es&oi=ao; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7983-8417
The main objective of this proposal was the creation of an Agricultural Machinery Bank to support small and medium producers in the municipality of Granada, Meta. This approach arose from the need to improve the working and productive conditions of local farmers, facilitating access to efficient and modern machinery to optimize their agricultural practices. The municipality of Granada is located in Colombia's Orinoco region, which is characterized by a favorable climate for various agricultural activities. However, many small and medium-sized producers face significant limitations due to the lack of access to adequate machinery, which has a negative impact on their productivity and profitability. The creation of a Machinery Bank seeks to alleviate these conditions by providing mechanisms for producers to use machinery under favorable and profitable conditions. The general purpose of the proposal was to design a technical-economic scheme to facilitate the creation of the agricultural machinery bank. At a specific level, it seeks to evaluate the demand and availability of machinery in Grenada, in which the needs of farmers were identified in order to define the minimum criteria for the creation of the agricultural machinery bank. An economic financial feasibility analysis was also carried out to determine the feasibility of the project. The proposal was based on a structured approach involving several phases. It began with a detailed diagnosis through surveys and data collection, which made it possible to identify the specific needs of producers in terms of agricultural machinery. These data were then analyzed using descriptive statistical methods to assess the relevance of the proposal. The planning phase included the elaboration of a general scheme for the implementation of the machinery bank, considering technical and logistical aspects necessary for its efficient operation. Follow-up indicators were developed to facilitate ongoing evaluation of the bank's effectiveness. Among the benefits expected from the establishment of the machinery bank are an improvement in the supply of agricultural machinery, a reduction in the costs associated with its use, and an increase in the productivity of crops, such as pasture and semiannual crops, which are predominant in the region. In addition, a projection was made for improving the quality of agricultural products through the implementation of more efficient and sustainable techniques in cultivation practices. The agricultural machinery bank will not only facilitate access to machinery, but will also provide training to farmers on its use and maintenance. This would ensure that producers can take full advantage of the available resources, which could translate into sustainable economic development for the municipality. The project was evaluated over time using economic indicators, such as the Net Present Value (NPV) and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR), which helped measure the bank's profitability. In addition, some mechanisms were established to monitor the use of the machinery and the impact on producers, thus ensuring the transparency and effectiveness of the project. In conclusion, the creation of a Machinery Bank in Grenada represents an innovative strategy to improve the situation of small and medium agricultural producers, as well as to promote the economic development of the region through the modernization of agricultural production. This will not only offer economic benefits, but will also contribute to the sustainability and resilience of the local agricultural sector.

Intensive aquaculture in Colombia, especially under Biofloc Technology (BFT) and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), faces limitations in water quality management due to reliance on manual measurements and reactive decisions that increase the risk of mortality, low feed efficiency, and high production costs. The aim is to develop and implement the AquaNutri AI Mobile platform as an intelligent support tool for monitoring, prediction, and control of critical physicochemical parameters, to improve the productivity and sustainability of aquaculture systems. A quantitative, applied, and experimental approach was adopted, structured in four phases: design of a mobile interface, implementation of an automatic alert system, integration of correlational and predictive analysis models through artificial intelligence, and comprehensive field validation with measurements of mortality, energy consumption, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and user perception using the Likert scale. The prototype to be developed will enable real-time data capture, issue preventive alerts, and generate useful predictions for decision-making, projecting improvements of 10–20% in survival, an 8–10% reduction in energy consumption, and a 5–8% optimization of FCR. The findings demonstrate that AquaNutri AI Mobile will contribute to transforming traditional aquaculture into a data-driven process, democratizing access to technology for small and medium producers, aligning with the National Plan for the Development of Sustainable Aquaculture (PlaNDAS) and CONPES 4144 of 2025, and consolidating itself as a viable and scalable proposal towards smart aquaculture in Colombia.

Livestock farming in Colombia faces complex challenges that range from administrative management to technological innovation and environmental impact. The efficiency and competitiveness of the sector are compromised by the lack of knowledge in administration, which has historically resulted in inefficient livestock systems. It has been identified that the central problem of livestock farming in Colombia is the lack of sustainability (Pertuz, 2022), due to the low productive efficiency of conventionally managed livestock production systems. Likewise, the lack of management strategies makes it impossible to objectively plan and quantify the impact that the appropriation of innovations available in the sector would have, making it difficult for the bovine producer to be competitive, productive and profitable. Therefore, this document relates the application of this management innovation for the livestock company El Refugio, located in the municipality of Pivijay, department of Magdalena, which is dedicated to cattle breeding. This proposal contains strategies aimed at directing the company through the implementation of effective management, focused on clear and measurable results, supported by a strategic vision that ranges from tactical management to politics, always with an eye on continuous learning and challenging established standards, seeking the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the livestock company.

The department of Cundinamarca is the main potato supply hub in Colombia, with key producing municipalities such as Villapinzon, Choconta, Tausa, Bogotá, Subachoque, Pasca, Zipaquirá, Carmen de Carupa, Lenguazaque, and Guasca. Historically, this region has supplied Bogotá's demand; however, in 2020, a 2% decrease in supply from Cundinamarca was recorded, while Nariño and Boyacá showed an 11% and 12% growth, respectively, in their market share (Fedepapa, 2023). This quantitative research aims to generalize results broadly, control phenomena, and analyze numerical magnitudes. The target population includes potato consumers in Madrid, Cundinamarca, along with distributors and retailers working with the company, using stratified random sampling to ensure market segment representation. From a socioeconomic perspective, potato production and cultivation are major sources of rural employment, but the number of direct jobs in production has declined in recent years, linked to the lack of opportunities and well being perceived by sector workers. The poverty perception exceeds 60%, while the Multidimensional Poverty Index adjusted for the potato supply chain stands at 39%, compared to the national benchmark of over 45% (Fedepapa, 2023)

Livestock farming is a crucial sector for the development of rural areas in Colombia, but it is currently facing major challenges such as the aging of the rural population, the degradation of natural resources and the demand for sustainable practices. This has motivated the need to involve rural youth in this productive activity, who are limited by the lack of job opportunities, lack of financing and limited access to land, which leads to migration to the cities. Based on this problem, the proposal seeks to propose strategies for the revitalization of the livestock activity in the rural communities of the Rionegro Region (Cundinamarca), through the promotion and active participation of young people under a modern and sustainable agricultural environment, contributing to economic, social and environmental development and ensuring a more sustainable and equitable future. For its development, it is initially intended to make a diagnosis of the livestock sector from the social, economic, political and productive aspects and then formulate a proposal for the promotion and active participation of young people in order to improve their quality of life and thus contribute to environmental sustainability. By encouraging youth participation, we hope to generate employment opportunities and improve food security, promoting greater environmental awareness among the younger generations.

The poultry industry is experiencing continuous growth to meet the increasing demand for food due to the rise in the human population. To achieve this, it has required the implementation of efficient production models that incorporate technological innovations aimed at maximizing efficiency and product quality through the transformation of its production processes. Various strategies and production models have been developed to optimize production and reduce downtime through the development of technological innovations. A specific case in the incubation process is the development of an automated egg injection machine designed to handle large volumes and reduce time during inoculation. This technological innovation has made it possible to perform In ovo vaccination at 18 days of incubation of the fertilized egg. Additionally, the process includes that once the eggs exit the incubator, this machine inspects the embryo inside the egg to determine if it is fully developed. Subsequently, vaccination is carried out, and the eggs are classified into the hatching area to await hatching. The efficiency of this machine allows for the review, vaccination, and classification of eggs, inoculating between 20,000 and 30,000 eggs per hour. Another comparative advantage of this technique is that, in addition to mandatory vaccination, it is also used for the inoculation of energy substitutes, thereby improving the hatching of chicks. Previous studies have shown that exhaustion during hatching can decrease glycogen reserves, which may be due to a lack of nutrients, dehydration, and inadequate management. This underscores the importance of In ovo feeding to ensure optimal productive performance in the poultry industry. Based on the above, the poultry industry must continue to develop advanced technologies to maximize the productive and economic efficiency of its organizations, as it is fundamentally a competitive sector. Therefore, innovation in the development of new production models is required to enter various markets.
