El Codito neighborhood, located in the northeastern hills of Bogotá, Colombia, has undergone significant evolution from its pre-Hispanic origins as a Muisca settlement, through its founding in 1539, to becoming a rural area with farms and green fields, and later an urban sector facing social and economic challenges. This master’s thesis focuses on the systematization of a community experience in El Codito, specifically at Colegio El Codito, where the creation of artistic murals was used to narrate the neighborhood's history of social conflict and promote practices of peace and reconciliation. The methodology employed was qualitative and participatory, involving local residents in collaborative art workshops. The murals became a means for the community to express their realities, fostering dialogue and forgiveness. The results demonstrate that community art can be a powerful tool for social transformation, strengthening collective identity and promoting social cohesion. This finding is supported by studies highlighting how art can change and improve social situations, contributing to the organization of new forms of relationships and social inclusion. In conclusion, the experience in El Codito shows that integrating artistic practices in vulnerable communities can facilitate processes of peacebuilding and reconciliation, offering a replicable model in other similar contexts.

This research focuses on the systematization of the Red Voces Javerianas communication strategy, implemented at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 2022. It constitutes the master’s thesis required for the degree of Master in Communication, Development, and Social Change at Universidad Santo Tomás. Its principal aim was to contribute to the creation of a university community free from violence and discrimination. The research emerged from the need to strengthen preventive actions against gender-based violence and discrimination, recognizing communication as a key field for driving cultural and social transformation. The purpose was to identify the achievements, lessons learned, and areas for improvement arising from the strategy’s implementation by analyzing its communicative and educational practices. The analytical categories included a gender approach, a human-rights approach, and communication for social change. Methodologically, the study conducted a systematization of experiences inspired by Jara (2018), complemented by contributions from Torres Carrillo (2013) and ALBOAN (Eizaguirre, Askunze, & Urrutia, 2004), and employed a qualitative hermeneutic perspective (Gumucio-Dagron, 2001) to understand the experience through the accounts of key actors. Within the communication, development, and social change strand, a situated, participatory and oriented approach toward institutional change has been prioritized. The results indicate that the strategy has been consolidated within the university community as a reference for violence prevention, establishing digital channels and on-campus actions that have fostered recognition of diversity and the promotion of networks of care. The research also identified lessons regarding the importance of dialogic communication, student participation, and the need to strengthen awareness of institutional referral routes. Among the opportunities for improvement, the findings highlight the importance of articulating efforts with institutional actors and ensuring the long-term sustainability of actions. In conclusion, the systematization shows how a communication strategy grounded in gender and human-rights approaches can shape university culture and contribute to the prevention of violence.

One of the most famous phrases in the world of photography belongs to the photojournalist W. Eugene Smith. Eugene Smith, and it says: "photography could be that faint voice that modestly will help us to change things". Based on these words, the purpose of this paper is to present a proposal for a research work route about the power of photography as a means to achieve a positive social change in the world, combining it also with the essence of memory, as a narrative exercise of the past and the present. The research will focus on a reflexive and conceptual analysis of how photography becomes a tool that literally contributes to the construction of memory. It will study concepts and theoretical approaches that explain how photographic images, from different categories, can be engines of memory and social change. Likewise, through a critical analysis of photographs, we will show how this medium has been used to document realities and evoke memory.

This article analyzes the relationship between traditional cuisine from Colombia’s Pacific region and the identity of Black women in Buenaventura, through a communication and social change lens. Using an audiovisual narrative centered on the Association of Keepers of Traditional Pacific Cuisine, it documents the lived experiences, memories, and everyday practices of four traditional cooks from the José Hilario López market square. The research acknowledges cooking as a cultural and political act that intertwines territory, resistance, intergenerational knowledge transmission, and community agency, within a context historically marked by structural inequality, violence, and marginalization. Through interviews, participant observation, and analysis of the local sociocultural context, the study examines the mechanisms used to preserve gastronomic heritage, the communicative strategies linked to its oral and practical transmission, and the economic, symbolic, and organizational role of the market square as a space of resistance and social cohesion. Findings show how these women’s culinary practices not only safeguard cultural heritage but also foster leadership, entrepreneurship, and social transformation. The study concludes with a communication strategy proposal aimed at strengthening traditional practices as a tool for women’s empowerment, cultural heritage recognition, and inclusive cultural policymaking. This research contributes to making visible the central role of traditional cooks as political subjects, knowledge holders, and agents of change within their communities.

Adolescent pregnancy in Suba is a challenge in terms of public health. Despite the efforts of the health system, it does not decrease significantly. In this context, the Juan N. Corpas institution, with the Lisbon Community Center, opens its doors to the population that requires health care and is not in economic conditions to pay for a private medical plan. This research seeks to address the issue from a different perspective, from the voice of health managers and young people, with a perspective of communication for social change, with the methodology Action Research Participation. Through a series of interviews, workshops and activities that incorporate audiovisuals, a link is established to discuss possible alternatives for the prevention of teenage pregnancy. The conclusions show that there is a demand on the part of young people for a more direct, open and non-euphemistic dialogue between adults, including parents and teachers on sexual and reproductive education. Concrete communicative actions were identified, such as the creation of podcasts (Van Leeuwenhoek School), workshops and marketing actions (Nosotras brand of sanitary napkins). The work of the health managers is a direct contribution to the communication processes because they manage, through home visits, to establish bonds of trust with the community where there are not necessarily technological mediations but the construction of a social fabric that creates trust between the families and the managers, to address health and welfare issues.

The quality of water and the efficient provision of the service of this resource is a constitutional duty of the State. However, in Colombia, many municipalities do not have a potable and efficient water service, violating this right. One of these municipalities is Coello, located in the department of Tolima. The municipality has an aqueduct and sewage company, Espucoello, but the population affirm that the water is not drinkable and that it comes with waste; the service tends to be inconsistent and this affects the population in various ways. When inquiring about the problem, the mayor's office and Espucoello do not provide adequate information, but say that the service provided is adequate and complies with health condition

TransMiCable (a cable railway) is a paradigmatic project in the implementation of participatory citizen relationship processes. This is because in addition to being an innovative project in terms of technology for urban transport, it improves urban governance by articulating common objectives of various social development actors such as the public sector and citizens. In this way, scenarios of social and organizational strengthening are built in the management of communities with the public sector. That is why this research aims to identify and analyze what were the processes of participatory communication and citizen participation in Ciudad Bolívar related to the construction and start-up of TransMiCable. Understanding that these processes made possible the social transformations and the improvement of the quality of life in the communities involved in the project between 2016 and 2018. This seeks to offer the necessary alternatives of approach and incidence for the governance in the construction of projects and territorial interventions, having as its axis the development of work with the communities. On the other hand, it is expected to identify the communication and participation processes that enabled citizen dialogue, the exchange of knowledge and the promotion of citizen culture for the appropriation of the project. In addition to determining what were the participation and communication strategies that were implemented during the construction and commissioning of TransMiCable in Ciudad Bolívar when it came into operation between 2017 and 2018. This also seeks to understand the communication processes in the town of Ciudad Bolívar, derived from the construction and commissioning of the TransMiCable and its contribution to citizen empowerment and appropriation in the transformation of the territory. The above are the specific objectives that will allow knowing the experiences and activities that made the project, which was conceived as a mobility solution, become a Comprehensive Urban Project. For the research process, the qualitative research methodology is used, with the case study method, taking as its axis the experiences of the local communities and the public entities that participated in the construction process of the system, through a approach to the social actors that were part of the project, the citizen participation and communication scenarios implemented in the development of the work, the incidence and scope left by all the intervention strategies that were executed during the construction of the Cable. As a result of the research process, it can be determined that since 2017, TransMiCable implemented different strategies that strengthened the social and cultural fabric of the locality, and processes that had traditionally been executed separately in public entities were integrated: social management and service to citizens. This articulation reinforced both processes, consolidated the intervention of the project and the incidence of the sociocultural component. As a result of the foregoing, the relationship with the communities was optimized, making strategic the need to educate and communicate with citizens. In addition to the above, the communication and participation processes implemented in TransMiCable allowed it to become a comprehensive urban development for the modernization of the town, as it transformed the surrounding space with a series of complementary facilities planned in collaboration with the citizens and that added social value to the project. These facilities bring prosperity and a culture of coexistence to the town (these are cultural centers, a museum, parks, open-air gyms, parks with games for children, centers for the elderly, community halls, spaces dedicated to tourism and a SuperCade, a citizen service office). On the other hand, it was possible to establish that during the development of the project there was the participation of various social actors such as leaders of Community Action Boards, neighborhood associations, associations of residents and owners, environmental organizations, unions, local disability council and other type of organizations interested in the work; thus strengthening the territorial management of entities and communities. These spaces for dialogue and training have special emphasis on the mechanisms of participation, dialogue and citizen culture. As conclusions of the research process, it can be ensured that the participation of citizens in the design and execution of public policies becomes the axis of development, providing advocacy tools, and territorial presence for social and community transformation. This occurs from the previous stages, beginning in the feasibility stage, going through the studies and design, which is the most influential stage in the projects, and ending in the construction and maintenance of the work. It can also be determined that the processes of participatory, alternative and community communication play a determining role in the construction of the social fabric of the community. In such a way that the community becomes jointly responsible for the urban development of the locality and the city, and with this the appropriation and sustainability for Ciudad Bolívar and for the project is achieved. As a result of the communication and citizen participation processes, TransMiCable became an example of social management that has been replicated by the district administration in other projects in Bogotá that seek territorial transformation in the face of constant work with citizens.

This research investigates “La Liga Profesional Femenina de Fútbol de Colombia” (LPFFC) between the years 2017 and 2022, due to the fact that in this period of time Colombian women's soccer has become a social phenomenon that has grown in the country's sports culture. In this way, 3 approaches or topics have been addressed. First, there is the characterization of the business model of the LPFFC to identify, from the analysis of its regulatory structure and possible shortcomings. On the other hand, to determine the criteria for journalistic coverage of the league, since it is considered that the visibility of women's soccer in the national media does not occupy a relevant place in the media agendas. Finally, the sporting and competitive dynamics of the LPFFC are examined from a social and cultural perspective. The hypothesis is that the LPFFC has irregularities in terms of the lack of investment by the clubs, which mainly affects the players and their development as professionals. The deficiency in the structural model of the league, due to the changes in regulations that come up year after year in terms of number of teams, number of matches and duration of the tournament. In addition, the low investment on the part of the regulatory entities and the low visibility of women's soccer. Throughout the research process, a qualitative methodology was used to demonstrate the hypothesis by means of interviews with the different actors involved.

The profile for peace of the faculty allows us to go beyond any social, cultural and economic analysis that we may carry out in the future, because each of our investigations will always be directed at ensuring the need to project the importance of peace within any process or event of society. Being social communicators - journalists who have within our training studies emphasized in the concept of peace, makes us beings capable of identifying and contributing to transcendental information processes such as State negotiation events and insurgent groups, even having the power to create new suitable and viable spaces to support and generate peaceful processes in the hearings. Although news events are also part of our agenda, we can also stop to analyze the information provided by the factors of the conflict that we are dealing with (poverty, injustice, violence, between bulls). Thus entering into the hard struggle of not becoming repeaters of violent terms, nor falling into the macabre game of misused and published terminology, but on the contrary, being active communicators and generators of solutions.

In Colombia, as in other Latin American countries, a current topic of political debate and public opinion, is the legalization of abortion. The judgement of the Colombian Constitutional Court C-355 of 10 May 2006 ruled that three exceptional cases were decriminalized. Based on this ruling, reproductive health care providers and NGO who have promoted decriminalization published through internet and social media, communicative pieces that support the free access to Voluntary Termination of Pregnancy (V.T.P. - I.V.E. in spanish), and now fight in favor of the legalization of this practice. Some of these images were selectioned to compose the corpus of this investigation, to do an enunciative analysis and a multimodal critical discourse analysis (CDA). The approach to these narratives will be around discursive marks about biopower, wellness notions and social marketing, and thus search for the notions they have about it and the social and cultural change they propose through their visual communications.
