    The project presents the creation and consolidation of MISSI as a company dedicated to the B2B manufacturing and distribution of non-edible cake decorations. The proposal focuses on offering personalized and standardized products for bakeries and pastry shops in the western Sabana region of Cundinamarca, supported by an organized operation, competitive prices and agile response times. MISSI’s products are mainly made from heavyweight cardboard and specialty papers, cut with cutting plotters and assembled through a controlled manual process. The business model combines personalized cake mockups and decorated animated volcanoes, allowing the company to serve different types of celebrations. According to the analysis, the project shows operational and commercial potential, although its financial recovery requires continuity beyond the evaluated period.

    Propuesta de mejora para el area de almacenamiento de la empresa Inversiones DIMALU S.A.S

    Inversiones DIMALU S.A.S. is experiencing a systemic inefficiency within its warehouse operations that limits its operational capacity and negatively impacts its cost structure. The core issue stems from the absence of a formal facility layout design and an adequate storage infrastructure, preventing the implementation of fundamental warehouse management principles. Current operations are carried out within a total area of 54.58 m², of which approximately 33.38 m² (61.15% of the total area) is allocated to storage. At present, this space is managed empirically and without a structured organizational system. This structural deficiency results in a series of measurable operational and financial consequences. First, the material flow is highly inefficient, characterized by backtracking, unnecessary travel distances, and process bottlenecks. This disorganized workflow generates an estimated 10% of unproductive working time for the four warehouse operators, resulting in a direct hidden cost of approximately COP 570,000 per month. Second, the absence of vertical storage systems (warehouse racking) forces products to be stacked directly on the floor. This practice not only underutilizes more than 60% of the available cubic storage capacity (considering a usable height of 2.5–3.0 meters), but also leads to damaged packaging and product spills. These inventory losses account for an estimated 0.5% to 1.0% of monthly sales, representing financial losses ranging from COP 215,250 to COP 430,500. Furthermore, material handling operations are performed entirely manually. Warehouse personnel routinely handle loads exceeding 20 kg without the assistance of material handling equipment, significantly increasing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and occupational accidents. Inventory management relies primarily on employees' experience and memory, preventing inventory traceability, proper stock rotation through FIFO (First In, First Out) or FEFO (First Expired, First Out) methodologies, and effective demand planning. The root cause of this problem is the lack of an engineering-based approach to logistics management, which constitutes a fundamental pillar of modern warehouse and distribution center management. The direct financial losses, estimated at more than COP 10 million annually, represent only the most visible consequence of the problem. The underlying impact is even more critical: the current operational inefficiencies act as a direct constraint on the company's growth, limiting its ability to scale production and respond effectively to increasing market demand. In addition, unsafe material handling practices and inadequate storage of chemical products expose the organization to significant legal, occupational, and financial risks that could jeopardize business continuity. Therefore, this issue extends beyond a simple cost optimization challenge; it represents a strategic barrier that threatens the company's long-term sustainability and competitiveness.

    TERMO ENERGÍA S.A.S is a company with great recognition in the city of Villavicencio–Meta, positioned as one of the first companies to enter the refrigeration industry, supported by 20 years of experience. It has significant participation in public projects that have been key to the city’s development, providing services in the installation of electrical networks and communication systems. It is also an important contractor for private entities in various industries such as agriculture, security, textiles, and road concessions, among others. Given the above and the great relevance of TERMO ENERGÍA S.A.S in the city, the Industrial Engineering Faculty of Santo Tomás University, Villavicencio branch, conducted a case study identifying all the internal and external aspects of the company in order to detect possible waste in key processes for the proper functioning of the organization and to propose, under the Lean Six Sigma methodology, the implementation of an improvement plan. In this case, the study was mainly carried out in the operational logistics processes, where several problems have been identified that have affected the way the company performs its daily activities. There is no system in place to optimally organize tasks and projects, which generates confusion, delays, and even repetition of activities. In addition, when the company needs to search for specific data such as the last service provided, the workplace, or the technician responsible, it must rely on the accounting system, where the lack of a structured database to store information is evident. This makes control difficult and limits decision-making. Another weak point is the lack of defined processes, as many activities are done improvisedly, causing errors and waiting waste, which ultimately impacts both internal performance and customer relationships. To improve this situation, an action plan is proposed that combines technological and operations management tools. The proposal includes designing an application to support logistics operations using Office tools to optimize project management and teamwork, aiming to organize projects and responsibilities, create a database that centralizes key information, standardize processes with clear steps, and apply Lean Six Sigma practices to optimize time and resources. The development will be carried out in phases: first, a diagnosis of the current situation; then, a process analysis to identify the most critical ones; followed by the design of solutions; and finally, the implementation with training and follow-up. The goal is for the company to achieve more organized, efficient operations and improved results for both its team and clients.

    Richs Bakery, located in Villavicencio, specifically in the Rosa Blanca sector, faces difficulties in its production process stemming from a lack of strategic demand planning. The absence of a defined criterion for determining daily bread production quantities led to shortages on some days and overproduction on others, resulting in waste and a risk of loss of freshness and perceived quality. To standardize production and ensure an appropriate balance between actual demand and production volume, the project was developed using the Lean Six Sigma philosophy, applying the DMAIC methodology to guarantee sustainable process improvement. During development, multiple diagnostic tools were implemented, including Project Charter and SIPOC, lane diagrams, and flowcharts. To measure this information, check sheets were created for actual plant data, and a time study was conducted. Statistical tools such as Pareto analysis, descriptive statistics, and Sigma level calculations were used to analyze this data. In addition to constructing the value stream map of the current state, an Ishikawa diagram, and an analysis of the seven wastes (mudas), the main problems in the process were identified. Based on these findings, an improvement proposal was designed, focused on standardizing production. This proposal was supported by the development of Python software that centralizes the historical record of sales and production, enabling data-driven decision-making for the first time in the company. Activating this system generated tangible results: surpluses were reduced by 15% and shortages by 10%, and economic losses associated with waste and overproduction were decreased, achieving an estimated savings of $1,380,000, thus strengthening the bakery's profitability and sustainability. Finally, an action plan was structured to guide implementation and sustain a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.

    In this paper, we address the company Brake Pak Frenos y Frenos in Villavicencio, where it was identified that it lacks a functional inventory control system, relying on manual records in Excel, which causes inefficiencies and delays when verifying an order. Carrying out this process manually prevents detailed tracking, causing delays and difficulties in administration. The implementation of an automated system is justified to improve operational efficiency, reduce times, minimize losses, and keep track of what comes in and goes out.The overall objective is to implement an inventory control system in the company by 2026.The methodology is to create a system using Python and AppSheet, starting with a sample of two of the best-selling products. The DMAIC cycle (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) will be applied, using tools such as 5S, process mapping, time studies, and Pareto and Ishikawa diagrams to analyze the current situation and substantiate improvements. We will conclude with the schedule, where we plan the necessary activities from the selection of the company to the control of the implemented improvement. The timelines required for each phase of the project are established in order to ensure that the objectives are met within the established timeframes.

    Hand’s On Burger, located in the Buque neighborhood of Villavicencio, operates two retail locations and a production center responsible for receiving and distributing raw materials. Currently, inventory control is carried out through manual records and a non-integrated billing system, which has led to inconsistencies between physical inventory and administrative records, causing stockouts, unplanned purchases, and losses of supplies due to expiration, thereby affecting the establishment’s operational efficiency. In response to this issue, this project proposes the design and implementation of a digital inventory control system based on the Lean Six Sigma methodology, using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) approach as a tool for continuous improvement. Based on the diagnosis of the current process, control mechanisms will be established to reduce variability and improve the traceability of supplies. As an expected result, the implementation of the system will reduce inventory inconsistencies, improve the accuracy of records, optimize supply planning, and reduce raw material losses, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the company’s operational efficiency.

    TPK Street Food, a fast-food company located in the La Esperanza sector of Villavicencio, has experienced significant growth in sales, profits, and market position in recent years. However, this growth has also highlighted a major problem in its administrative area: recurring errors in raw material counting and inventory records. Currently, inventory control and logistics processes are carried out manually using notebooks and printed forms, leading to errors in raw material data recording. Due to the problems TPK Street Food faces, the company seeks to improve its management by optimizing inventory control and data recording. The goal is to analyze all stages of the raw material process to better understand the company's problems and operations. This will be achieved using various industrial engineering tools, such as Pareto charts, Ishikawa diagrams, the 5 Whys method, SIPOC diagrams, and process flowcharts, to provide a more comprehensive analysis that will allow for the development of a solution. Finally, the proposal consists of creating a Python-based tool for the company to directly automate inventory control and eliminate manual inventory counting by warehouse operators.

    Villavicencio is one of the cities with the highest rainfall in Colombia, a condition that generates both drainage challenges and opportunities for energy utilization. Currently, at the Universidad Santo Tomás – Villavicencio Campus, rainwater is directly discharged into drainage systems without being used, which represents a waste of a resource with potential to generate clean energy and reduce dependence on the conventional electrical grid, whose costs are volatile and impact the institution’s operational expenses. In response to this situation, a proposal is presented to harness rainwater through a collection system and microturbines capable of transforming water resources into sustainable energy, contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions and strengthening university sustainability. The project aims to design an applicable alternative for classroom 302 in Block A Santo Domingo de Guzmán, based on the characterization of institutional electricity consumption, the estimation of available hydrological potential, and the evaluation of the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility of its implementation. To achieve this, historical energy consumption data (2025–2026), rainfall records from IDEAM, direct observation of roofs and downspouts, as well as experimental measurements of flow rates and drop heights will be used. The analysis will be quantitative and supported by hydraulic formulas, simulation using specialized software, calculations of the levelized cost of energy and return on investment, in addition to an estimation of environmental impact. The development of the proposal will follow a schedule of ten activities distributed between August 2025 and May 2026, including literature review, data collection and organization, field observations, experimental measurements, data processing and analysis, technical system design, construction of a functional scale prototype, and final drafting of results, with the purpose of providing an innovative, sustainable, and replicable solution within the university.

    The management of tool and equipment inventory is a critical factor for engineering services companies, given its direct impact on operational efficiency, costs, and organizational sustainability. This paper presents a case study applied to SICET S.A.S., a company based in Bogotá D.C. that faces quantifiable losses in its inventory: six tools lost or under claim with a total value of $2,940,000 COP, an average tool search time of 399 seconds per cycle with peaks of up to 803 seconds, and a return process with no formal record or digital backup. To address this problem, a mixed-methods case study was conducted under the Lean Six Sigma methodology and the DMAIC cycle. Data collection was carried out through a formal time study of 45 observed cycles, an interview with the warehouse supervisor, and a review of the physical tool delivery records. Quantitative analysis (descriptive statistics and a Pareto diagram) shows that three activities concentrate 87% of the total operational time: searching for tools (48%), receiving requests (69% cumulative), and relocating tools (87% cumulative). Based on these findings, an integrated solution was designed combining the physical reorganization of the warehouse using an As Is - To Be model with zone classification by item type and rotation, ABC classification and the FIFO method for inventory control, and the design of an HTML web application to digitally record tool delivery, transfer, and return with individual responsibility assignment per worker. The project scope covers the design of the solution; full implementation of the web system is a subsequent phase. The results provide a quantitative baseline of the process and a structured proposal to reduce losses, strengthen internal control, and improve operational efficiency at SICET S.A.S.

    This degree project aimed to improve the inventory receiving and dispatch processes at DELFRUT HASS S.A.S. through the implementation of a pilot control system designed to reduce discrepancies between physical inventory and system records. To achieve this, a diagnosis of the current processes was conducted using direct observation, document review, and inventory record analysis, identifying system parameterization errors and the lack of standardized procedures as the main causes of inventory inaccuracies. Based on these findings, a control system founded on Lean Warehousing principles was designed and implemented, including updates to Kardex parameters, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), checklists, and staff training. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in inventory accuracy, a considerable reduction in recording errors and financial losses, and confirmed that process standardization and operational controls strengthen inventory management and the overall logistics efficiency of the company.

    Maize production in the department of Meta shows variations associated with planted area, harvested area, yield, municipality, and production system, which makes medium-term agricultural, logistical, and productive planning more difficult. In this context, this study developed a predictive algorithm in Python to estimate maize production in Meta, using historical microdata from the Rural Agricultural Planning Unit (UPRA) for the 2006–2024 period. The methodology included data collection, cleaning, and organization, as well as the standardization of information by year, municipality, and crop classification. Subsequently, a machine learning model based on Random Forest Regressor was applied, using year, encoded municipality, encoded production technique, planted area, harvested area, and yield as input variables. The model was trained and validated using an 80/20 data split, hyperparameter optimization with GridSearchCV, and performance evaluation through RMSE, MAPE, and R² metrics. The results showed that the proposed algorithm performed better than a traditional three- year moving average method, achieving a 97.91% reduction in RMSE, a MAPE of 7.90%, and an R² coefficient of 0.9943. Likewise, the feature importance analysis identified harvested area and yield as the variables with the greatest influence on production prediction. Finally, a projection was generated for the 2025–2030 period, differentiating between technified and traditional maize. The study concludes that the developed algorithm can serve as a support tool for decision-making in agricultural planning, logistics, input management, storage, and maize supply planning in the department of Meta.

    This business plan proposes the creation of a company dedicated to the production and commercialization of freeze-dried passion fruit pulp. The product is distinguished by its ability to preserve the natural properties of the fruit without the need for refrigeration, maintaining its flavor, color, and nutritional value for a longer time. It is aimed at food industry businesses seeking innovative and healthy options, as well as consumers who value practicality and quality. The project will be developed in the Meta region, taking advantage of the abundant availability of passion fruit in the area, which ensures a constant and lower- cost supply of raw material. The technical study confirmed the production capacity using the HL-25 machine, while the financial analysis showed that the business is both profitable and sustainable. The results indicate a Net Present Value (NPV) of $ 60.000.623,55, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 31%, and a Payback Period of 3.77 years, demonstrating that the project can recover its investment within a reasonable timeframe while generating steady profits. The cost and pricing analysis projects an efficient operation capable of maintaining stability without relying on large production volumes. This work brings together technical, financial, and market criteria that support the creation of a solid company with the potential to grow and contribute to the agro-industrial development of the Meta region.

    El Palacio de las Carnes is a family-run butcher shop in Villavicencio with sixteen years of experience and two active locations. The business’ growth (opening new branches and expanding its range of meat and non-meat products) has created challenges in inventory management and control. Currently, inventory is recorded manually, leading to delays, inconsistencies, and difficulty in anticipating shortages or overstocking, resulting in financial losses due to spoilage and stockouts. To address this, a data management system integrated with Power BI was implemented to automate the recording of product entries and exits, optimize inventory tracking, and improve decision-making. The project employed a continuous improvement and process analysis methodology, which included organizing the space using 5S techniques, developing Lean Six Sigma tools to diagnose the current process, and designing, implementing, and monitoring a data management system connected to an interactive dashboard in Power BI. This solution centralized information facilitated its updating, and provided real-time visualization of sales, inventory levels, and product turnover. As a result of the implementation, the time spent on inventory registration and querying was reduced, errors associated with manual control were decreased, and the accuracy of the available information improved. Furthermore, a reduction in losses due to expiration and shrinkage was observed, along with more timely product replenishment and improved operational organization within the establishment. In conclusion, the automation of inventory control significantly contributed to process efficiency, resource utilization, and more reliable and timely management at El Palacio de las Carnes.

    The present research aims to propose a model for optimizing the patient care process in the Muisca Optics of Tunja, through automation tools focused on appointment registration and reminder. The diagnosis showed that the manual process generates unproductive times, duplication of tasks, dependence on telephone contact and risk of errors in agenda tracking. To address this situation, the research was developed under a mixed approach, integrating techniques such as direct observation, interview with administrative staff, time study, cost analysis, Pareto diagram, flow diagram and DOFA matrix. These tools made it possible to understand the current functioning of the patient care process and identify the main activities that generate delays, reprocesses and unnecessary operational costs. Based on the results obtained, an automated flow was designed supported by tools such as SharePoint, Power Automate and Outlook, in order to facilitate appointment registration and timely sending of automatic reminders to the patient. The comparative analysis between the manual and automated process showed a significant improvement in operational efficiency, reducing the average care time from 9.63 to 4.40 minutes per patient. In addition, the estimated monthly cost increased from $1,926,818 to $826,426 COP, representing projected savings of $1,100,392 COP per month and $13,204,704 COP per year. These results show that automation contributes to improving operational efficiency, reducing reprocesses and strengthening the quality of service in visual health.

    The research focuses on developing a simulation model that integrates digital twin and IoT technologies to analyze manufacturing processes in the metalworking sector and enable the implementation of predictive maintenance. The goal is to represent the behavior of production machinery through simulation, considering physical factors, operational status, and performance indicators directly associated with the target industrial machinery. The model was developed in a three-phase structure: literature review, conceptual modeling, and simulation using AnyLogic, which allowed for the evaluation of the system in different scenarios. The literature review identified some of the main causes of failures in production processes, as well as the variables used in studies aimed at implementing predictive maintenance and facilitating monitoring. This study incorporates physical, status, and monitoring variables that enable the evaluation and monitoring of the system and assess the model’s ability to detect operational failures. The model’s construction takes into account the integration of the machine, sensors, and environment in different scenarios for the digital twin within the simulation. The analysis performed regarding the variables varies depending on the technological level (automation) of the production plant. In this case, for manual manufacturing, the variables that pose a challenge for implementation are those related to equipment condition; conversely, in automated environments, the variables for analysis and monitoring play a significant role, since data is obtained directly. thanks to this capability, indicators are of great importance in automated scenarios, as the reliability of the information facilitates data analysis as well as real-time system monitoring. The literature review also revealed that integrating digital twin and IoT technologies is a viable approach for establishing maintenance systems in manufacturing companies. However, implementation is limited by the accessibility of the technology, staff training, and, finally, the complexity involved in incorporating these systems into environments with a low level of technological infrastructure. The results of the simulation and research demonstrate the significance of the indicators and variables, as well as how they change depending on the degree of automation in the production plant. On the one hand, there is manual manufacturing, which is characterized by the importance of state variables due to limitations in the availability of information; on the other hand, there are automated systems, which facilitate analysis and continuous monitoring. The model can contribute to the analysis and improvement of maintenance systems established in production processes; however, it must be noted that this integration is progressive, depending on the available technology, to lay the groundwork for creating larger models that are better adapted to the diversity of systems. This improves decision-making and, in conjunction with the evolution of production, leads to greater digitalization. This study demonstrates the conceptual feasibility of combining digital twins and the Internet of Things (IoT) to support the implementation of predictive maintenance. Although SmartTwin is a simulated proposal rather than a real-world scenario, it establishes a foundation for representing equipment performance monitoring.

    The purpose of this project is to propose an inventory management model for Droguería América Plaza, located in the city of Sogamoso, with the aim of improving control, inventory availability, and the efficient use of the resources already available to the drugstore. This research project stems from the characterization of several problems related to current inventory management, including disproportionate stock levels, expired products, and inaccurate inventory, all of which affect the operational efficiency and profitability of the business. Currently, the drugstore uses Dominium Plus software to manage its inventory. While this tool fully meets basic operational tasks, it lacks analytical capabilities, i.e., functions that allow management to make optimal decisions about what and how much to buy, how to best rotate products, and plan for future inventory. The research project will not be based solely on theory; we will use a comprehensive and practical approach, combining what the numbers say (quantitative) with the team's experience and knowledge (qualitative). This will allow us to describe how everything currently works, then design a customized model and analyze whether it is fully viable in practice. We will mainly focus on the products that move the most and are most valuable to the business (high turnover and value).

    This project presents the results of the implementation of improvements in DPORTS's inventory management, developed during 2025 through the application of industrial engineering techniques and technological tools. The project was executed when the company faced challenges such as high market competition and price wars associated with smuggling. During 2025, an initial analysis of the company's status was conducted to identify specific problems in inventory management. Based on this diagnosis, solutions grounded in industrial engineering best practices were implemented, including ABC classification, adoption of System32 POS software, implementation of EAN-13 barcodes, and reorganization of the store lay-out. The applied methodology included data collection through interviews and direct observation, analysis of the existing technological infrastructure, and design and implementation of the process optimization proposal. The results proved significant improvements in inventory turnover and DPORTS's operational efficiency. As a continuation of the project, the integration of new digital transformation tools and implementation of advanced management indicators are proposed for 2026 to combine and expand the achievements, continuously adapting the management model to changing market needs.

    Project management in organizations presents weaknesses related to the lack of structured methodologies, limited staff experience, and deficiencies in the planning and control of activities, which affect the achievement of strategic objectives. In this context, the objective of this study is to design and implement a methodological strategy to strengthen project management, based on the analysis of weaknesses and opportunities identified within the organization. To achieve this, an applied approach with a descriptive scope was used, incorporating tools such as the characterization matrix for organizational diagnosis and the integration of best practices in project management. As a result, the implementation of the strategy improved planning processes, optimized resource utilization, defined roles, and established monitoring indicators, generating greater clarity in processes and decision-making. Consequently, the findings demonstrate that the adoption of structured methodologies significantly contributes to organizational strengthening, promoting operational efficiency and a culture of continuous improvement, while also serving as a replicable tool for future projects.
