(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-05-20) Cortés Córdoba, Federico; Aguilar, Karina Julieth; Universidad Santo Tomás
This monograph analyzes the feasibility of implementing a dedicated fleet for the ground transportation of goods from the Port of Buenaventura to Bogotá as a strategic alternative to improve operational efficiency and reduce logistics costs in Colombia’s most important foreign trade corridor. The study is developed in the context of the impacts generated by the regulation of the Efficient Cost Information System for Freight Road Transport (SICE-TAC), road contingencies, and security issues affecting the stability and competitiveness of freight transportation. Through a mixed-methodological approach, traditional demand-based contracting and dedicated fleet models are compared by evaluating variables such as operating costs, vehicle availability, response times, and logistics performance. The results show that the implementation of a dedicated fleet, supported by technological tools for traceability and operational planning, makes it possible to optimize transport management, mitigate rate volatility, improve capacity availability, and strengthen the sustainability and competitiveness of road freight transport in Colombia.

(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-05-12) Gil Rodríguez, Tania Lorena; Niño Espinel, Laura Tatiana; Barreto Martínez, María Alejandra; Aguilar Imitola, Karin Julieth; Universidad Santo Tomas
The textile industry in Colombia faces an increasingly broad and significant environmental challenge, primarily due to the large amount of waste generated throughout its production chain, especially during the consumption stage. Since there is no well-defined system for managing this waste, reverse logistics is emerging as a key tool for promoting a circular economy. This monograph explores the reverse logistics strategies implemented by Colombian textile companies to manage their products and post-consumer waste, emphasizing their processes and the benefits derived from their use. It employs a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical approach based on a systematic review of the scientific literature from databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, covering the period from 2020 to February 2026. The selected documents identified six categories of strategies: collection, sorting, reverse transport and distribution, network coordination, information and control, and collection incentives.

The postal code is a geographic coding tool that allows for the efficient organization and classification of shipments according to their destination. Throughout history, the postal code has been considered essential for shipping distribution in various countries, as its use allows for the precise breakdown of the city, zone, and delivery address into alphanumeric values, thus reducing the likelihood of non-delivery due to incomplete information. It is well known that last-mile delivery costs represent a significant portion of the total cost of international freight transport. Therefore, it is necessary to consider different solutions to a problem that can be addressed from the moment the information for final delivery is collected. For this reason, improved adoption and use of postal codes reduces setbacks in the last-mile delivery process. Its adoption, along with georeferencing technologies, lays the foundation for faster, more efficient, and sustainable deliveries, adapting to the growth of e-commerce in Colombia.

This monograph addresses a critical challenge for the Colombian rice agro-industry: the impact of paddy rice pricing on agricultural productivity and the logistical competitiveness of mills. In a context marked by tensions between producers and processors, price variability, high operating costs, and the management of complex factors characterized by uncertainty, this study seeks to analyze the dynamics of paddy rice prices in Colombia, focusing on their systemic effects on agricultural productivity and the logistical competitiveness of the milling industry (2015-2025). The research, developed with a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative), focuses on the Molino Federal mill, located in Ibagué, Tolima. Historical data, national statistical and regulatory data for analytical matrices, and a literature review were analyzed, which involved the use of statistical software such as Excel and consultation of indexed platforms, along with a grid for data systematization. This work represents an academic and practical contribution to the rice sector, supported by an exhaustive analysis that generates a vision of successful agro-industrial rice practices, along with a logical framework where the well-structured proposal focused on the functions of FEDEARROZ is developed, framed in the second half of 2026 and which should continue into 2027, in order to mitigate the negative effects of external factors and generate greater value in challenging environments and for the benefit of the productive sector.

This study addresses the problem of the sustained growth of inventory in the Baker Hughes logistics center in Neiva, which has not been accompanied by a corresponding update of the organizational system, warehouse layout, or material coding, leading to inconsistencies between physical and digital inventory, increased picking and dispatch times, inefficient use of space, and operational risks associated with inadequate storage conditions. In this context, the objective was to propose a redesign of the inventory organization system aimed at improving material traceability, optimizing space utilization, and enhancing operational efficiency. To achieve this, a method based on a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive–propositional design was employed, including direct observation and documentary analysis of the SAT MM system for diagnosis, followed by the development of an improvement proposal grounded in warehouse management principles. As results, a layout reorganization based on zoning, ABC classification, and vertical space utilization was proposed, along with the standardization of alphanumeric coding, resulting in improved alignment between physical distribution and digital records, reduced operational times, and enhanced traceability. In the discussion, the findings highlight the need to integrate infrastructure, processes, and technology to achieve logistics efficiency, emphasizing that actions such as the adaptation of covered storage areas and the construction of a second level-currently under implementation-reinforce the feasibility and relevance of the proposed solution.

Colombian agrologistics presents structural limitations derived from the disarticulation between public policies and the real needs of the sector, reflected in infrastructure deficiencies, high logistics costs, and low integration of producers into markets. In this context, this study analyzes the relationship between public policies and logistics performance in Colombian agrologistics during the period 2020–2025, evaluating their degree of correspondence with critical sector factors. To this end, a mixed-method, analytical, and longitudinal research approach was developed, based on the review of primary and secondary sources, complemented by the application of a multicriteria analysis model (MCA), which allowed weighting the incidence of economic and logistics variables within the agrologistics system. The results show that trade policy and investment are the main drivers of logistics performance, while factors such as dependence on road transport and land formalization represent the main bottlenecks. Likewise, a low incidence of monetary policy and an underestimation of climate risk were identified within the analyzed system. Consequently, the findings highlight the need to strengthen the effective implementation of public policies through priority investments in tertiary road infrastructure, improvements in transport and storage systems, and greater articulation among sector actors to reduce logistics costs and facilitate access of small and medium-sized producers to formal markets, thereby contributing to a more efficient, competitive, and inclusive agrologistics system in Colombia.

This research aims to identify the weaknesses and opportunities in the production and commercialization of the edible mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus in Colombia. A qualitative, analytical-descriptive approach was employed, based on a review of scientific literature and the application of a semi-structured interview with a small-scale producer. The results show that, globally, the supply chain of Pleurotus ostreatus is structured into different stages, including inputs, production, processing, commercialization, and consumption, with a growing incorporation of new technologies to improve product traceability and quality. In Colombia, production is mainly carried out on a small scale, with limitations in process standardization, low technological control of key technical variables, and generally low adoption of technology. Productive, logistical, and commercial barriers were identified, including substrate contamination, lack of cold chain infrastructure, weak coordination among stakeholders, and low consumer awareness. However, the country presents opportunities such as the availability of agro-industrial residues and the growth of the healthy food market. In conclusion, strengthening the sector requires an integrated strategy that includes process technification, improvement of logistical infrastructure, implementation of new technologies for traceability, and promotion of the nutritional and industrial value of edible mushrooms in order to increase competitiveness and sustainability in Colombia.
