Transformaciones narrativas del sentido de vida asociadas a experiencias con psilocibina en adultos jóvenes de Villa de Leyva
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-09-24) Triana Rangel, Valentina; Duran Castellanos, Karla Vanessa; Rojas Romero, Saira Paola; Acevedo Arango, Oscar Fernando; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001343764; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=S5-lWu4AAAAJ&hl=es&oi=ao; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2892-7521
This study aimed to understand the relationship between psychedelic substance use and the transformation of life-meaning narratives among young adults living in Villa de Leyva, Colombia. A qualitative approach with a narrative design was employed to explore the meanings participants attribute to their experiences with psilocybin and the ways these experiences are integrated into their life stories. Data were collected through in-depth narrative interviews conducted with five male participants aged between 24 and 40 years who reported previous psychedelic experiences. The analysis was organized around four main categories: psychedelic experience, subjective transformations, life-meaning narratives, and sociocultural influences. Findings revealed that psilocybin experiences were perceived as significant life events that promoted self-reflection, emotional resignification, identity reconstruction, and a reorganization of temporal experience. The results also showed that transformations in life meaning are not exclusively linked to substance use itself, but rather to the narrative, relational, and contextual processes through which these experiences are interpreted and integrated. The study concludes that psychedelic experiences can become meaningful opportunities for reconstructing personal significance, fostering new understandings of the self, interpersonal relationships, and future life projects. These findings contribute to the psychological understanding of psychedelic experiences from a narrative and contextual perspective.

(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-09-23) García Polania, Angie Alejandra; Ibañez Cortes, Katherine; Romero Reyes, Paula Andrea; Siachoque Morantes, Nicolas; Quiroga Baquero, Luis Alberto; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001048902; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=AOeAwzsAAAAJ&hl=es&oi=ao; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9646-9860; https://orcid.org/0009-0001-0713-0444
Violence against women represents a public health and human rights problem that takes physical, psychological, sexual, economic, symbolic, institutional, obstetric and digital forms, whose effects are not always visible or distributed in a similar way, in this way the This research aimed to identify, systematize and map the available evidence on physical and psychological sections. To do so, a review of the scientific literature was carried out through the pool, selection and analysis of studies related to the consequences of violence in the physical, psychological, sexual, economic and social dimensions. The results showed 610 category-study records derived from 157 unique references. The records focused on consequences and impacts, risk factors and forms/types of violence. The most repeated sections were grouped into mental health, physical health, sexual and reproductive health, economic autonomy, social networks, institutional access and accumulated conditions. The evidence confirms that violence against women operates as a continuum of intertwined harm. Gaps persist over digital, economic, symbolic and institutional violence, long-range effects, intersectional populations and standardized medicines.

Aging involves multiple losses and progressive changes in physical, cognitive, and emotional dimensions that directly impact quality of life. Although evidence supports the benefits of physical exercise and cognitive training when applied separately, little is known about their simultaneous interaction on emotional response and cognitive performance in older adults. The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in emotional response and cognitive performance before and after three experimental conditions: cognitive effort (CE), physical effort (PE), and dual-task (DT). A single-group pre-experimental pre-post design with repeated measures was employed (n = 5). Participants were physically active older adults aged 60–74 years from the Physical Activity Program for Older Adults at Universidad Santo Tomás. Emotional response was assessed using the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), while cognitive performance was measured with the computerized Stroop Test administered via PsychoPy. Data were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests and Cohen’s d effect sizes in JASP software. No statistically significant changes were observed across conditions, a finding attributed to the limited sample size. Nevertheless, effect sizes revealed that the dual-task condition increased positive affect (d = 0.44) while negative affect remained stable (d = 0.00). Overall improvements in cognitive performance were noted following the experimental sessions, with the largest gain in inhibitory control occurring after the cognitive effort condition (d = 0.99). The physical effort condition showed the greatest emotional stability. In conclusion, cognitive-motor dual-tasking does not produce emotional overload and slightly enhances cognitive performance in active older adults, positioning it as a promising intervention for future research with larger samples.

This research aimed to understand the frustration mechanisms developed by young soccer players in Bogotá when facing situations of poor athletic performance, taking into account their individual experiences and the construction of their life projects. The study was primarily grounded in the Lazarus and Folkman transactional model of stress and coping, complemented by insights from sports psychology regarding frustration, poor athletic performance, life projects, and group dynamics. A qualitative study with a phenomenological-hermeneutic design was conducted, involving eight young adults aged 18 to 24 affiliated with soccer academies in Bogotá. The process unfolded in five phases: field access and participant selection, informed consent, data collection, data organization and storage, and process conclusion. Semi-structured interviews were used for data collection, and the information was analyzed through open, axial, and selective coding, complemented by elements of discourse analysis. The findings revealed that frustration is primarily linked to errors, injuries, and personal expectations; furthermore, participants employ strategies centered on reflection, seeking solutions, and emotional regulation. Support from family, teammates, and coaches acts as a protective factor, whereas self-imposed demands and social comparisons can serve as sources of pressure. The study concludes that athletic frustration can become an opportunity for learning and personal growth when adaptive coping resources and support networks are present.

El proceso de formación en políticas públicas desde la facultad de psicología de la Universidad Santo Tomás: un análisis desde las representaciones sociales
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-09-18) Pachongo Tijo, Jessica Lorena; Mora Bustos, Christian Yamir; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0000530220; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=tbHW1wYAAAAJ&hl=es&oi=ao; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4505-6756
Psychology is a discipline that has historically contributed to the understanding of human behavior, social dynamics, and the factors that influence individuals’ quality of life. Professional practice has traditionally focused on legal, educational, community, and health-related contexts, addressing complex social issues. However, contemporary social changes require professionals who can move beyond conventional intervention settings and actively participate in broader transformation processes within institutions and society as a whole. It is within this context that public policies become particularly relevant, as they cut across multiple dimensions of society and seek to address social problems and population needs through coordinated actions involving both individuals and institutions. Despite this relevance, psychologists’ participation in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of public policies remains limited and insufficiently visible. This situation raises important questions regarding how this subject is addressed during the university education of future professionals. Universities play a fundamental role in the training of psychologists, as they are responsible for preparing professionals capable of responding to current and future social needs. In the field of psychology, this involves not only the development of theoretical and technical knowledge but also the promotion of competencies related to critical thinking, social commitment, interdisciplinarity, and an understanding of the political processes that shape human problems. Consequently, there is a need to understand how the relationship between psychology education and public policy is configured within the educational process. For this reason, the present study seeks to analyze the social representations held by different members of the Faculty of Psychology at Santo Tomás University regarding the process of education and training in public policy. Social Representations Theory suggests that individuals construct shared knowledge, attitudes, and meanings that guide the ways in which they interpret and act upon their reality. Exploring these social representations makes it possible to understand how different actors perceive the role of the university in public policy education and to identify the opportunities and limitations associated with its incorporation into psychological practice. The findings presented in this study make it possible to identify dichotomies, gaps, and opportunities related to education and training in public policy, as well as reflections concerning comprehensive education, interdisciplinarity, the role of the university, and psychologists’ participation in settings that promote social transformation. In this way, the study aims to contribute elements that encourage reflection on contemporary educational processes and on the possibility of strengthening psychologists’ involvement in spaces where their knowledge can contribute to the development of responses to current social challenges.

This study aimed to understand how women diagnosed with breast cancer re-signify their personal goals after at least one year in complete remission. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, framed within the interpretive paradigm, was employed. Six women in complete remission participated; in-depth individual interviews and a focus group were used as data collection strategies, with instrument validation by expert judges. Six core categories emerged from the analysis: re-signified personal goals, mental representations, goal-directed behaviors, social and cultural values, illness beliefs, and cultural mandates. Participants transitioned from goals centered on external demands toward goals oriented to self-care, personal growth, and emotional well-being. Spirituality, family bonds, and the belief in a mind-body connection functioned as key re-signification resources. It is concluded that complete remission does not imply a return to a prior state, but rather the construction of a new normality grounded in more personal convictions. Gender mandates hindered the expression of vulnerability, yet participants actively resisted them. Health systems must incorporate sustained psychosocial support during the remission stage.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved beyond its instrumental function to become a space for interaction that fosters experiences of companionship, attentive listening, and emotional connection. This study aimed to understand university students’ narratives about their interactions with AI in relation to the dimensions of psychological well-being proposed by Ryff: self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and personal growth. A qualitative study with a narrative design was conducted through 13 semi-structured interviews with students from Universidad Santo Tomás (Colombia), aged 18 to 28 years. Data were analyzed at the textual, contextual, and metatextual levels using Quintero Mejía’s (2018) narrative matrix. The findings revealed that participants’ narratives were characterized by paradoxical and ambivalent plots, in which AI was perceived both as a tool that enhances learning and academic performance and as a potential threat to autonomy, relational authenticity, and life purpose. Four narrative plots were identified: learning and transformation, latent threat, relational dehumanization, and critical empowerment. The study concludes that psychological well-being in the digital era depends on developing a reflective and critical relationship with AI, fostering autonomy, creativity, and ethical judgment.

This qualitative research seeks to understand, through a case study, the dynamics of a family system when one of its members exhibits symptoms of an anxiety disorder. Using the complexity paradigm, it analyzes how certain anxiety-inducing experiences permeate daily life, family relationships, and roles, as well as how individual and collective coping strategies shape interactions among family members. The findings reveal a significant reorganization of roles and a search for emotional closeness; however, there is also tension and emotional strain among some members. Based on these findings, an understanding of family dynamics is developed—taking into account contextual factors and shared meanings—to guide interventions that strengthen family functioning and address the anxiety disorder. These results provide relevant information for clinical practice, family support, and the work of the Psychological Counseling Service (PCS) at Santo Tomás University

The objective of this research is to analyze how incarcerated individuals are perceived during their social reintegration process and how this influences the development of their personal autonomy. Theoretically, the study is based on three main categories: social reintegration, personal autonomy, and narrative identity. Methodologically, it was structured as a systematic qualitative review, using its basis for analysis of the experiences reported in academic documents about incarcerated adults in Latin America and Europe. The process included stages of literature search, selection, evaluation, systematization, thematic classification, and interpretive synthesis, using documentary matrices, and applying thematic analysis to the data. The results demonstrate that, while economic circumstances restrict decision-making capacity and foster dependency, autonomy can be gradually rebuilt thanks to protective factors such as self-management, employment, education, and family support networks. A strong affect was also observed in the subjects' biographical narratives, which could be positively transformed through access to academic opportunities. In conclusion, reintegration is a multidimensional phenomenon that demands community and institutional co-responsibility, demonstrating that autonomy goes beyond simple individual will and requires real conditions and opportunities in the environment to forge new life projects.

The objective of this study was to develop and psychometrically evaluate a tool for measuring emotional neglect in young adults in the city of Villavicencio, based on a post-positivist, critical rational, empirical-analytical approach. The research was carried out in three phases: operational definition of the construct, design of the instrument, and evaluation of its validity and relevance. In the first phase, an exhaustive theoretical review was conducted, which identified six dimensions of emotional abandonment: explicit lack of support, broken bonds, ambiguous relational cognition, difficulty establishing new relationships, guilt and insecurity, and low self-esteem. Subsequently, the instrument was submitted to expert review, who evaluated the clarity, coherence, relevance, and adequacy of the items, agreeing on the theoretical and social relevance of its measurement. Finally, the test was applied to a sample of young adults, and the results showed adequate content validity, construct validity, and semantic comprehension, which determines the usefulness of the instrument for assessing experiences of emotional abandonment in young adults from different areas that are decisive in young adulthood.

The main purpose of this research was to examine the possible relationship between the use of the ChatGPT application and the development of intellectual autonomy among Psychology students at Universidad Santo Tomás, Villavicencio campus. The study was conducted under a quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational approach, aiming to determine whether the use of artificial intelligence tools has a significant relationship with the strengthening of higher-order cognitive skills, including critical thinking, logical reasoning, and cognitive flexibility. To collect the information, a structured questionnaire was applied, allowing the identification of the frequency with which students use ChatGPT, along with subtests such as reasoning and card classification, which were used as indicators to assess intellectual autonomy. The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation test, considering three levels: a general correlation for the entire sample, one for participants with higher frequency of use, and another for those who reported more limited use. In conclusion, the results showed that there is no statistically significant relationship between the frequency of ChatGPT use and the dimensions of intellectual autonomy. In the overall sample, a slight negative correlation was found between the use of the tool and reasoning (rho = -0.242; p = 0.123), as well as very low positive correlations with card sorting (rho = 0.111; p = 0.484) and between reasoning and card sorting (rho = 0.223; p = 0.156), none of which were statistically significant. In the group with higher frequency of use, the coefficients were also low (rho = 0.071; 0.093; and 0.213; p > 0.05), confirming the absence of a significant relationship. Similarly, in the group with lower frequency of use, weak negative correlations were observed between use and reasoning (rho = -0.264; p = 0.34) and between use and card sorting (rho = -0.419; p = 0.12), along with a weak positive relationship between reasoning and card sorting (rho = 0.390; p = 0.15), which was also not statistically significant. Although slight negative trends were identified, the findings suggest that the impact of this tool depends more on how it is used than on the amount of time spent using it. Therefore, it may serve as a valuable pedagogical support tool when employed with instructional guidance, critical reflection, and educational objectives that promote students’ cognitive independence. The results showed no statistically significant relationship between the frequency of ChatGPT use and the dimensions of intellectual autonomy. However, slight negative trends were identified, suggesting that the impact of this tool depends more on how it is used rather than on the amount of time spent using it. In conclusion, ChatGPT can serve as a valuable pedagogical support when it is implemented with proper academic guidance, critical reflection, and educational goals aimed at promoting students’ cognitive independence.

Currently, the constant use of social media is part of the daily life of university students. Although these platforms facilitate communication and access to information, they have also been associated with difficulties in time management and the fulfillment of academic responsibilities. In this context, the present study aimed to establish the relationship between social media addiction and academic procrastination among undergraduate students at Universidad Santo Tomás, Villavicencio campus. The research was conducted under a quantitative approach, with a correlational scope and a non-experimental cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 357 students selected through probabilistic cluster sampling. The Academic Procrastination Scale and the Social Media Addiction Questionnaire were applied, assessing the dimensions of task postponement, academic self-regulation, social media obsession, lack of personal control, and excessive use. Data analysis was carried out using Spearman’s Rho test. High correlations were identified among the dimensions of social media addiction: obsession and lack of personal control (rₛ = .701; p < .01), obsession and excessive use (rₛ = .655; p < .01), and lack of control and excessive use (rₛ = .680; p < .01). Regarding the relationship between addiction and academic procrastination, positive associations of low to moderate magnitude were found with task postponement: obsession (rₛ = .344; p < .01), lack of personal control (rₛ = .395; p < .01), and excessive use (rₛ = .398; p < .01). Likewise, obsession was negatively related to academic self-regulation (rₛ = −.250; p < .01). Overall, the results show a positive and significant relationship between social media addiction and academic procrastination, particularly in the tendency to postpone activities, highlighting the importance of strengthening self-regulation strategies and promoting responsible technology use in the university context.

This study aims to develop an understanding—through a qualitative, descriptive, non-experimental design—of how sound and music influence emotional regulation among young adults in Bogotá, D.C., Colombia, from a descriptive phenomenological approach. The study sample was selected through voluntary participation and included young adults working in a pharmaceutical laboratory as well as in the fields of digital marketing and social communication. The methodology was based on discourse analysis and the identification of meaning units, following the method proposed by Amedeo Giorgi (2017), which offers a phenomenological reading aimed at reducing meanings into psychological language. In addition, rating-scale questions were used to relate valence and arousal when participants were exposed to auditory stimulation chosen by themselves.

This study examines the relationship between psychological flexibility and depressive symptoms in young adults aged 18 to 28 from Villavicencio, Colombia, following a romantic breakup. Using a descriptive-correlational design with a quantitative approach, data were collected from 417 participants through the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II) and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). Results revealed a strong, positive, and statistically significant correlation (ρ = .662, p < .001) between psychological inflexibility and depressive symptoms, indicating that higher levels of rigidity are associated with greater emotional distress. These findings highlight the protective role of psychological flexibility in mitigating depressive symptoms and support the relevance of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as an intervention strategy. The study contributes empirical evidence to the field of mental health, emphasizing the need for programs that foster resilience and adaptive coping in young adults experiencing relationship loss.

This research explores the social representations of psychological well-being among eighth-semester students of the Faculty of Public Accounting, evening program, at Universidad Santo Tomás Villavicencio campus, with the purpose of reflecting on the meanings that shape its understanding within the framework of the institution’s humanistic education. Its objective is to understand, through students’ experiences, the meanings that structure these representations. The theoretical foundation draws on the contributions to psychological well-being by Carol Ryff (1989) and José Luis Grajales (2004), as well as on Denis Jodelet’s (1989) theory of social representations. The study is situated within the interpretative paradigm, grounded in phenomenology, and oriented toward the understanding of language and the construction of meaning. In this sense, its objective is “to understand, in the lived experiences of eighth-semester students of the Faculty of Public Accounting at Universidad Santo Tomás – Villavicencio campus, the underlying meanings that configure the social representations of psychological well-being.” Methodologically, the study follows a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews and focus groups, whose discourses were analyzed from a phenomenological perspective to interpret the configuration of meanings surrounding well-being. The results show that psychological well-being constitutes an essential element in comprehensive university education, beyond the particular circumstances students experience. Finally, recommendations are proposed at both institutional and personal levels.

The present study aimed to understand the sociocultural adaptation of Venezuelan immigrants in the municipality of Villavicencio, Meta, through a mixed-methods approach that integrated quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Sociocultural adaptation was examined through the dimensions of communication, psychological adaptation, cultural integration, and acculturation, in order to comprehensively analyze the experiences and levels of adjustment of this population within the host context. In the quantitative phase, a pilot validation of the Sociocultural Adaptation Scale for Immigrants in Meta was conducted, showing adequate indicators of content validity, construct validity, and internal consistency, which allowed the identification of different levels of sociocultural adaptation among participants. The results revealed a predominance of low and medium levels of adaptation, with acculturation emerging as the most developed dimension, while cultural integration presented greater difficulties. In the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore migrants’ lived experiences, revealing that adaptation goes beyond the learning of new customs and involves processes of identity reconstruction, emotional coping, and the redefinition of a sense of belonging. Overall, the findings highlight sociocultural adaptation as a dynamic and continuous process influenced by both individual factors and social and community contextual conditions, providing relevant contributions for the development of intervention strategies and public policies aimed at migrant integration in regional contexts.

Bullying is a widespread phenomenon that significantly affects students’ psychological well-being, social integration, and academic performance. In Colombia, school bullying with discriminatory components toward migrant students has increased alongside the intensification of both international and interdepartmental migration, revealing structural and institutional gaps in how the education system addresses this issue. This study aims to evaluate the effect of an intervention program, based on the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, to reduce discriminatory school bullying among high school students at the Miguel Ángel Martín Educational Institution in Villavicencio. Using a quasi-experimental design, the study worked with eighth-grade adolescents from this public institution, which has a high percentage of migrant students from different regions of the country.

The aim of the research was to understand object choice in millennial adults based on their relationship with their primary object. To this end, a particular case study was developed with a married couple from the city of Villavicencio, using a qualitative methodology, which allowed in-depth interviews to be conducted with the participants to explore their early experiences, commitment, and choice of partner. This study was based on Melanie Klein's (1935) psychoanalytic theory of “object relations” as the main category and followed her postulates on the schizoparanoid position, the depressive position, and narcissism to understand the early organization of relationships, integrating Freudian contributions on the Oedipus complex and the Propping. Finally, the results obtained from the participants identified that the choice of object for both subjects is punctually related to the emotional experiences they had with their parental figures, described as ambivalent or absent, as childhood conflicts are repeated; however, the bond also functions as a potentially reparative space. From the Kleinian perspective (1935), the dynamics oscillated between splitting, projection, and idealization, along with the possibility of integration, guilt, and repair. Similarly, religion emerged in both cases as an idealized object that provided emotional support.

The purpose of this research is to understand the patterns of violence present in the lives of young video game consumers by identifying the stories and experiences provided by the actors. The lack of comprehensive studies on this topic at the national and local levels, especially in the department of Meta, underscores the importance of expanding knowledge on this subject. For this reason, from a qualitative approach, we seek to address this phenomenon through the use of semi-structured interviews that allow participants to freely recount their experiences in the virtual reality present in video games and the extent to which these experiences may contribute to the presentation of violent patterns that could pose a risk to those who consume them and the people around them.
