The research study originated from the difficulties encountered by the vast majority of students in identifying and understanding the morphological characteristics of the plants in their environment, which limits their ability to relate school knowledge to their daily lives, develop scientific skills, and appropriate the environment as a learning space. Therefore, this study aimed to strengthen the procedural scientific skills of multigrade students at the Sinuga campus of the Buenavista Rural Educational Center, specifically in the identification and analysis of the morphological adaptations of plants in their environment, through the use of the rural environment as a pedagogical resource. The methodology used in the project was mixed and descriptive, for which the instruments used were a pre-test and post-test questionnaire for multigrade students and an interview guide for the teacher in charge of the group. The quantitative data were analyzed using the t-test, and the perspectives given by the teacher in the interview were described. The findings indicated that the pedagogical strategy implemented had a significant impact on the students, which was determined by the t-test, as the difference between the pre-test (2.10) and post-test (4.77) means was statistically significant, with a t-value (8)=52.04<0.05, which means that significant learning was evident with the application of field trips and experiential learning, allowing theory to be related to practice.

The municipality of Nueva Granada offers an invaluable opportunity to discover the biodiversity of its vegetation and fauna, especially due to its location in a vast savannah near rivers that flow into the Magdalena. This geographical feature makes it a particularly attractive place for both native and migratory birds, favoring the observation of species such as herons, parrots, chickens, and turkeys, among others. However, this natural phenomenon is threatened by a growing lack of interest in local biodiversity. This problem stems largely from the preferential use of land for livestock farming, which negatively affects the birds' habitat. In addition, there is a lack of awareness among the community about the ecological value of these species and the migratory routes that cross the region. This lack of information has led to the loss of traditional knowledge related to the natural environment, especially with the disappearance of older people who used to pass on this knowledge from generation to generation. In view of this situation, academic intervention is imperative, aimed at creating and implementing pedagogical approaches that awaken, from childhood, the desire to learn about and preserve the region's rich fauna, emphasizing the ecological importance of birds in activities such as pollination and the maintenance of native vegetation. Within this framework, the researcher is carrying out an Educational Action Research approach, focused on the Urbano Molina Castro educational institution. To this end, she is conducting ethnographic work that includes semi-structured interviews with teachers and parents, as well as observation activities with students, who record their observations in field notebooks. The analysis of the information collected has facilitated the establishment of criteria for designing complementary teaching strategies, including the creation of a bird watching guide, developed from a problem-based research approach. These strategies have opened up important opportunities in the teaching and learning processes, not only because of their applicability in the local environment, but also because of the impact they have had on the different participants in the educational field. Each field experience has sparked interest in deepening knowledge about the environment, demonstrating how the use of contextualized teaching resources can change the relationship between students and nature, promoting more meaningful educational practices.

In the educational process, children between 6 and 11 years old are in a crucial stage of their cognitive, emotional, and social development. During this period, play becomes an essential tool not only for entertainment but also for the construction of knowledge and the strengthening of social skills. In this sense, play-based pedagogical strategies have been consolidated as effective methodologies in the context of basic education, allowing for a more significant, dynamic, and adapted teaching approach to the needs of students. Various studies have shown that play not only favors learning but also stimulates creativity, critical thinking, cooperation, and conflict resolution, which are key components for the comprehensive development of human beings (Piaget, 1972; Vygotsky, 1978). By integrating the playful component into school dynamics, greater motivation for learning is promoted, especially in areas such as natural sciences, which can sometimes be abstract or difficult for primary students to understand. Science, taught from a practical and experiential perspective, becomes an exploratory and significant experience. The Santotokids Project, aimed at promoting the inclusion and development of children with diverse conditions and learning styles, represents an ideal scenario for the implementation of innovative proposals that contribute to the comprehensive formation of children. In this context, play-based pedagogical strategies have the potential to improve not only learning in natural sciences but also the strengthening of fundamental social skills such as empathy, cooperation, respect, and assertive communication. This degree project aims to design, implement, and evaluate play-based pedagogical strategies to foster social skills and facilitate learning of natural sciences in children of the Santotokids Project, recognizing the importance of a holistic and inclusive educational approach.

This presentation aims to evaluate a Learning Object (LO) as an interactive pedagogical tool intended to positively impact the awareness of the rural population, seeking to transform traditional agricultural practices through education and the natural sciences. Formal education systems fail to effectively reach the rural population in general. The basic learning standards developed for the school-aged population, which corresponds to children and adolescents, lack the necessary educational, social, and cultural scope for the transformation of environmental awareness, which is both necessary and urgent in the face of current environmental deterioration and damage. This highlights the pressing need to create innovative and inclusive technological tools that lead to meaningful learning in a specific rural context: the El Diamante village in the municipality of Venecia, Cundinamarca. The proposal is based on a participatory action research (PAR) design, with a mixed approach combining qualitative and quantitative elements, and aims for transformation through the application of the OVA in the population of the El Diamante village in the Municipality of Venecia, Cundinamarca, is mostly populated by farmers who cultivate and develop a variety of crops, including beans, coffee, and bananas. A characterization form is being administered to local leaders of the Community Action Board (JAC) as a data collection tool to gather information on the following dimensions: population, social (educational), cultural, and environmental (agricultural practices).

In a globalized world, disaster risk management is a fundamental strategy for preserving lives and ensuring the well-being of communities. In Colombia, particularly in Medellín, geographical, social, and environmental conditions increase exposure to phenomena such as landslides, floods, and heavy rainfall, highlighting the need to promote prevention from within educational institutions. This study aimed to implement didactic strategies that foster knowledge among students of the “Santoto Kids” project at CAU Medellín about natural and anthropic threats, risks, and vulnerabilities. The research followed a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive design, involving a sample of 16 students between 8 and 12 years of age. Instruments applied included a pre-test, a four-session didactic sequence (designed based on students’ prior knowledge and context, and structured into opening, development, and closing moments), a post-test, and systematic field diary records. The results showed significant progress in students’ conceptual understanding of risk management, as well as in the adoption of preventive and reflective attitudes toward their environment. It is concluded that the application of didactic strategies promotes meaningful learning and contributes to the formation of more aware, prepared, and resilient educational communities.

The main purpose of the project was to promote practical learning through the direct observation of iguanas in their natural environment, aiming not only to impart knowledge about the biology and ecology of this reptile but also to cultivate in students an environmental awareness that transforms them into active protectors of biodiversity. The method used was based on an experiential approach that allowed students to interact directly with the natural environment, carrying out observation tasks and collecting information about the behavior and habitat of iguanas. Through field trips, they were able to observe iguanas in their natural habitat, explore their behaviors as well as their adaptation to the environment, consolidating learning and fostering critical thinking. To assess the impact of this strategy, tests were applied before and after the experience (pretest and posttest), allowing the measurement of students’ knowledge about iguanas and their perception of species conservation. The results were highly satisfactory, as in the posttest, 97% of the participants stated that the experience of studying iguanas in the classroom allowed them to gain knowledge about the behavior and adaptations of this reptile, strengthening their understanding of biological and ecological aspects. Likewise, the experience allowed them to improve critical skills such as scientific observation, analysis, and problem-solving, contributing to their overall education. This project highlights the importance of integrating environmental education into the school context, promoting learning that goes beyond textbooks and becomes a meaningful experience by involving students in the observation and study of iguanas.
